Slingerland Letters
When we teach the letters we have the children
trace the letters in the air, while they say the letter, the
key word on the wall card, and the letter sound. We use
a multi-sensory approach. We touch on the visual,
auditory, and kinesthetic modalities.
We say the following in bold print for each letter. In
Pre-K, we also say what is written in parentheses when we
first learn the letter. Once a child knows how to write
the letter, he/she no longer needs to say the part in
parentheses.
A apple /a/ it’s a vowel and it opens your throat
(around, up and down)
B ball /b/ tall stem down, up and away from my
body/across my body if the child is left handed

the line
