OJCA Annual Summer Conference Contests
Speech Contest
The speech contest has been a long-standing tradition in the Oklahoma Junior Cattlemen's Association.
There is a wide variety of participation in each division every year. All Speech Contestants must be entered
by July 15th, 2009. This year's topic will be any subject that pertains to the beef and/or cattle business. Topics
should not pertain to specific breeds of cattle. Speeches should be 3-5 minutes in length. Previous winners
are eligible to compete again.
The divisions will be: Novice, 9 years and younger and have not previously given a speech at the OJCA
summer conference: Junior, 13 years and younger; Intermediate, 14-16 years old; Seniors, 17-21 years old.
Age as of January 1, 2009.
Salesmanship Contest
Each contestant in the Salesmanship Contest will be required to provide a picture, registration paper
and any other supporting material to a judge. Contestants should attempt "sell" the animal to the judge.
There will be no time limit and the judge is allowed to ask questions while the contestant is selling. The judge
may ask various questions pertaining to the cattle industry or how the animal will fit into the judges operation.
Previous winners are eligible to compete again.
All Salesmanship contestants must be entered by July 15th, 2009. The divisions will be: Junior, 13
years and younger; Intermediate, 14-16 years old; Seniors, 17 to 21 years old. Age as of January 1, 2009.
Star Oklahoma Jr. Cattlemen Contest
The Star Oklahoma Junior Cattlemen contest is designed to highlight those youth who excel in the
management and understanding of the cattle industry based on his or her own cattle projects. The
competitors will present a slide presentation to a panel of judges and answer three minutes of questions
based on their operation. The application is enclosed. These applications must be brought to the OJCA
Summer Conference with all necessary material. Application must be received at the OCA Office by Monday
July 15th. Applicants will present a five to seven minute power point presentation to a panel of judges.
Contestants will only be allowed 10 slides. Judges will be allowed three minutes for questions. The divisions
will be: Junior, 13 years and younger; Intermediate, 14-16 years old; Seniors, 17 to 21 years old. Age as of
January 1, 2009.
Previous winners are NOT eligible to compete in the same division in which they have previously won,
however they are allowed to move up a division if they so choose.
All Star contestants must be entered by July 15th, 2009. Please do not submit applications in any type
of folder. The application should be paper clipped only, NO STAPLES OR BINDERS.
Pre-entries due by July 15th,, 2009.
