Junior Umpire Program
Little North Attleboro League maintains a junior umpire program for interested kids age thirteen
and older. All LNAL recreational league spring and summer games for age divisions 9-12 are
worked exclusively by the junior umpires.
The league conducts three early spring training sessions, approximately six hours total, per
season. Training includes field time as well as class room instruction. Each prospective umpire
must then pass a test prior to being considered eligible to umpire games. Additionally the
umpires are expected to umpire preseason scrimmages at no cost as part of their training. Upon
successful completion of training each umpire receives an official umpire shirt, hat, brush, bag,
and counter.
Two umpires minimum are assigned to each game; one bases and one plate. Junior umpires are
paid for their services with the home plate umpire receiving a premium for the greater relative
responsibility. Games are distributed as evenly as possible, however availability and
dependability are considered. For the junior umpires this is a job and will be treated accordingly.
LNAL does not limit the number of junior umpires. As a result the total number of games
available to each umpire is dependent upon the total number of games scheduled by the league
and total number of approved umpires in the program.
