Greenfinch was founded in 1993 by Cambridge engineering graduate Michael Chesshire,
who has been working on biogas projects since 1975. The company specialises in biological
and engineering aspects of anaerobic digestion.
It recently completed a number of projects upgrading sewage treatment plants in Wales.
Pioneers of the safe and sustainable recycling of food wastes, Greenfinch has demonstrated
domestic food waste digesters in England. The company is currently working with
Southampton University to compare the relative performance of mesophilic and
thermophilic digestion regimes. The company is concentrating on the importance of the EU
Animal By-products Regulation. It is also currently engaged in R & D work on the
digestion of grass as an energy crop.

Methan O Gen has over 25 years experience of developing, designing, building and

Ecobeo is a non-profit company founded by Mark Dwan and Christoph Eusterbrock to
establish and operate biogas plants in Ireland. Both Mark and Christoph have been
involved in this technology for many years, and established and operate the biogas plant at
the Camphill Community in Ballytobin.
Ecobeo is currently developing four centralised AD plants in the south-east of Ireland, for
the treatment of agricultural and commercial biodegradable wastes and the production of
power and horticultural compost.

Founded in 1995, Biogas Nord is an environmental engineering company specialising in the
construction of biogas heat-and-power plants for the treatment of waste waters,

digestion for over ten years. Consultancy work has been carried out for government
departments as well as for private clients. Christopher Maltin also represents the UK in

A gas engineering graduate of Salford University, Chris had extensive experience in the
industrial use of fuel-gases, gas distribution, and town-gas production, before joining the
energy department of the Institute of Industrial Research & Standards (now Enterprise
Ireland) in 1979. There he worked in the fields of steam generation and high-temperature
plant; gas firing, gas safety and standards for gas systems; and power from solid fuels,
wastes and biomass. He also studied renewable-energy with the Open University.

A subsidiary of German company farmatic Biotech Energy a.g., which has constructed
many large-scale biogas plants since 1990, with inputs ranging from 35,000 to 140,000
tonnes per annum. Combined mechanical and biological treatment systems are a
speciality.
The company recently commissioned their largest centralised digestion plant in the U.K., at
Holsworthy in Devon – 146,000 tonnes of cattle, pig, and poultry manure, and food wastes
collected from about 30 farms within a radius of 6 miles will be processed annually. Two
CHP engines will produce 14.4 million kWh of electricity from the resultant biogas.

The company commissions one large or several small works per year mainly in the sewage
industry. Recently acted as design consultant on a 4000m3 dairy farm digester incorporated a
Combined Heat and Power plant, in Indiana, USA (2003). The company commissioned many
digesters in the 1000 – 3000 cubic meter range including the 600 tonnes per day Goddard’s
Green sludge processing works on behalf of their client Siemens (1999) and Ford Sewage
Treatment works – West Sussex with 3 x 1800 cubic meter digesters for Patterson Candy (2000).
The company has won many awards and can advise on upstream and downstream processing,
reed beds (four constructed for BP in 2004) and liquor treatment.
