Dear Parishioners, Dear Parishioners, I write this note with a very grateful heart as we end the 2010-2011 academic year. Our school community has been blessed by you in so many ways during this past year. I am grateful to you for sharing your treasure with your financial support of our school. Student tuition only covers part of the operating costs of our school so your generosity and trust help sustain our school. Some of you came forward to offer to pay tuition for students. All of you are making a commitment to the education of the young people in this parish. A commitment that should reap great rewards for this parish in the future. Those students educated in our school hopefully will become supporters of Catholic education just as you are. You are the role models that make a difference in their lives. 6:30 AM Daily Mass The 6:30 AM daily Mass will be held this week then discontinued for the summer. Thank you to so many of you who share your talent with our school especially our helpers during the different liturgical seasons. You come to make our church beautiful for the celebration of Eucharist. You help us to nail our wood chips onto the cross. In the summer, you help with repairs in our school. Outside you keep our grounds beautiful. All these deeds are noticed by our students. Hopefully your good example will find a place in their hearts to do the same some day. You happily share your time with us. You come to our special liturgies and celebrate with us. You help with fundraising—the carnival, the Monte Carlo Night, Race for Education, etc. How could our school community not be thankful to this wonderful parish community! We pray for you daily. Please keep us in your prayers. May your summer be a relaxing one knowing you have helped to make this year an enriching one for 408 students and 25 faculty and staff members. God bless you, Mrs. Geraldine Murphy Principal Summer Hours – Parish Center Please note that beginning Monday and throughout the month of July, the Parish Center will close at 7:00 PM Monday thru Thursday and at 4:30 PM on Friday. 4th of July As we observe and celebrate the signing of our Declaration of Independence, which established us as a nation, let us pray for our country. May we use our blessings and the opportunities which our freedom provides to foster our growth and development in accord with God’s law. May we learn to value peace and know that it is our responsibility to teach our children how to use the blessings of freedom to be peaceful. So much in the world, in the news, and in the movies is teaching our children otherwise. “Unless we teach our children peace, someone else will teach them violence.” Joan Kroc – Peace Activist Parish Center Closing & No Exposition The Parish Center will be closed and there will not be Exposition on Monday, July 4th. Campaign for Human Development 2nd Collection – Next weekend Presently in our country, thirty-seven million American people live in poverty. Since 1970, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development has worked in our name to sow seeds that help individuals and communities out of poverty, not only for a day, but for a lifetime. The Catholic Campaign funds projects in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and throughout the United States to support low-income people as they work together to solve community problems, increase educational opportunities, and create jobs. The Catholic Campaign for Human Development relies on an annual parish collection to fund these anti-poverty programs. This collection will be next weekend (July 9/10). God bless you, Father Dunleavy #1-016 Saint Anselm All Star Chris Mooney Raised in St. Anselm Parish, today Chris, his wife, Lia, and their son, Danny, reside in St. Bridget Parish in Richmond, Virginia. Chris remembers fondly that he was a member of the student council in Grade 8. Chris played basketball here in 7th & 8th grades, while demonstrating great work ethics assisting with maintenance. Following graduation in 1986, he attended Archbishop Ryan and Princeton University and played basketball at both schools. Chris remembers his 2nd grade teacher, Sister Marie Christine, as an incredibly supportive and patient person. Father Deeney administered his first holy communion. Miss Tammaro in 6th grade was such a genuine person. His 8th grade teacher was Miss Ernst who was very thorough and prepared him well for high school. Mr. Jessie Dugan was his 7th and 8th grade basketball coach. Currently, Chris is the head coach of the Spiders of Richmond. When hired, Richmond athletic director said, “Mooney would attract student-athletes who would make the community proud, while sustaining Richmond's place among the Atlantic 10 elite." Chris proved him right. He has attracted student-athletes who make the community proud. The Spiders are not only among the Atlantic 10's elite, but among the nation's elite with back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and a Sweet 16 appearance in 2011. Chris and the Spiders were named to Richmond Style Weekly's 2010 Top 40 Under 40 for their community involvement with various charities including working with the homeless, Special Olympics, raising money for the Arthritis Foundation, and adopting a 14year-old brain tumor survivor, Nathan Mwenda, through the Friend's of Jaclyn Foundation. Life was not always easy for Chris; he has worked hard to attain the success he has accomplished. His mother died when he was 13 years old. According to his wife, Lia, this was the defining event of his life; everything he does is in honor of his mother. To Chris, St. Anselm is home. He and his siblings also attended school at St. Anselm and went to church every Sunday and holy day. He states St. Anselm was a great community of family and friends who were extremely caring and supportive of children. He feels incredibly lucky to have been a part of the community of St. Anselm. Chris, we too feel that you have done us proud and thank you for being a beacon for young men and women. God bless you! Read more about the retreat at ww.rachelsvineyard.org How to dispose of the American Flag properly! The Flag of the United States represents the men and women who built America. We know that it is not just red, white, and blue cloth. As the symbol of America, it stands for the past, present, and future of our country. It represents our people, our land, and our many ways of life. We show respect for the flag and the ideals it represents by handling and displaying it correctly. And, when the time comes to retire (dispose) our flag, it too needs to be handled with respect. If you have an American Flag that needs to be properly retired, place it in the container at the main entrance of our church, or give it to Deacon Whartenby, and our Boy Scouts will respectfully dispose of it. #5-016 NEW HAMPSHIRE BY BUS!
