Friends of Hillside Newsletter
January 2014
Dear Parents and Carers
Hope you’ve all had a great Christmas and New Year and are now settling back into the Spring Term.
We have two items from our Christmas Fayre Bidding Board still awaiting collection; the Pictures
Photography voucher (£25) and the Nandos Platter (£15) which was won by Rachel 1B who we haven’t
been able to trace. If this is still unclaimed by the end of Monday 27th January, it will then be available to the
first person who takes the money to the office!
Logo Competition – Could your child design a logo for Friends of Hillside Avenue?
We would like to give more children the opportunity to take part, so we have extended the deadline until our
Committee Meeting on February 3rd 2014. To enter, you need to design a logo for the Friends of Hillside
Avenue which we can then use the logo on our website, posters for events, this newsletter etc. If you are
using colour, we would need the logo to also work in black and white, so please bear in mind that some
colours will merge into one when photocopied. Entries will be judged by the Friends Committee, together
with Andy Dodds, a parent and a Graphic Designer. Entries, clearly labelled on the back with Child’s Name
and Class should be posted in the Friends Box in the School foyer. Happy designing!
Year 4, 5 & 6 Event
This is being planned by the Year 6 teachers and will be held just before Easter. More details soon!
School Photos – Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th January
Ashley Wood Photography will be in school next week for the individual and sibling photos. There are also
spaces if you wanted a family portrait taken after school on the 29th, please sign up on the notice board by
the school office. Last year’s family photos raised £287.43, a big thank you to Mrs Buttifant for organising.
Bag 2 School – Thursday 27th February
Bags will be coming home just before half term. We are collecting clothing, bedding, soft toys, belts, paired
shoes, hats, belts or handbags. All items are then sold to export markets worldwide where they are sorted
and then sold to the general public. We are paid £500 per tonne and the last collection made £260.00.
Please bring your bag/s to the Year 4-6 Playground in front of the empty classroom, (next door to Nursery)
AFTER SCHOOL Wednesday 26th February or START OF SCHOOL Thursday 27th February only.
Mothers Day Shop – Thursday 27th March
Letters will be coming out soon, so keep an eye on your child’s book bag!
