1.4 Introduction/Background:
Relief Nepal is a non-profit non-government organization dedicated to improve
the quality of life of poor, Youth, underprivileged and most disadvantaged
people in Nepal. Relief Nepal was founded in 2002 as a Community Based
Organization and it was formally registered as a NGO in 2008 in District
Administration Office, Sindhuli. It is also affiliated in Social Welfare Council
in 2009. It has liaison offices in Kathmandu and field office in Dhanusha.
Sindhuli is situated in midst of the Churey and MahabharataRanges.
SindhuliGadhi situated around 20 km of the district headquarter SindhuliMadhi
is of historical significance. It is said that British forces who has invaded Nepal
were defeated and chased away from SidhuliGadhi. Sindhuli district therefore
has immense potential for tourism. The social composition of Sindhuli district
consists of multi caste and multi ethnic groups. Economically Sindhuli is very
backward as more than 80% of the population is depended on agriculture and
there are no big industries in the whole district. There are 53 VDCs and one
Municipality in the district and some of the VDCs are still inaccessible from
the district headquarter due to lacking of transport and communication
facilities.
Considering the poor development situation of the district, a group of
conscious and energetic local female and male youths of Sindhuli decided to
work together in the area of social development, and formed an organization
named Relief Nepal in 2065. Relief Nepal has made organizational strategy to
act in complementary and supplementary of governmental organizations and
act in coordination and partnership with international and national non governmental organizations to end social evils of the society and bring positive
change, in the lives of poor community children, youth, women, and
marginalized sections with especial focus on under privileged children.

Developed society based on social, economic, political and gender equity.
Mission:
To enhance the livelihoods of children, youth, women and marginalized sections of the
society through empowering them to be self-reliant so that ensures their meaningful
participation in decision-making process in the society and able to enjoy their rights
Goal:
Vulnerable and marginalized people especially women, children, youths and people living
with marginalized conditions are empowered and participate in decision making process
about the issues affecting their livelihood

1.5 Objectives:
I.
To empower women and marginalised groups toward ensure human rights, increase
school education enrolment of school age children and reduced domestic violence,
dowry system and human slavery, and animal welfare through social mobilisation and
institutional building.
II.
To improve safe drinking water supply, sanitation and hygiene behavior in target
groups and reduced communicable and water born diseases.
III.
To increase access of deprived, marginalised community women and under five
children to basic health services, nutritional education, and reduced STD and HIV/
AIDs incidence in community.
IV.
To improve livelihoods of target groups through integrated management of
agriculture, biodiversity and ecosystem services and renewal energy.
V.
To promote the livelihood of the marginalized people by promoting local
product and enhancing their linkages with potential market system.
VI.
To facilitate child rights protection and promotional programs as a resource
organization in the local level.
VII.
To conduct non-formal education/literacy program in partnership with
GOs/INGOs targeting to the illiterate children, youths and women of the Dalit
and disadvantaged groups; linking with income generating activities and saving
credit program of the likeminded organizations.
VIII.
To work against various kind of social abuses like; dowry system, child
marriage, child labor, human (especially girls and women) trafficking, etc. in
order to ensure their rights.
IX.
To support and promote developing small scale modern farming, animal
husbandry and income generating activities to the marginalized low income
groups in association with concern agriculture development offices and
financial institutions.
X.
To provide relief and supports to the disaster (including climate change
hazards) affected population of the working area in association with
humanitarian support organizations.
1.6 Strategy and Approaches:
Along with these approaches Relief Nepal will be guided by the following
strategies:

Working in partnership with grass roots, marginalized farmer's agricultural workers,
marginalized communities, children, Youth and women Relief Nepal facilitates
community participation in program formulation, implementation and monitoring with
equal participation of women in decision-making and work place. We would like to
undertake and implement projects that ensure:

Participation: Rely on the full participation of children, youth, adult (women
and man) with direct experience of targeted problems.
II.
Networks/Linkages: Creates new networks including such different
constituencies as District Administration, VDC, and other government al
agencies, academics, lawyers, police, social activists, NGO's, stakeholders and
donors committed to work for the empowerment of marginalized children,
youth, adult (women and man).
III.
Rights and Advocacy: Bring about positive changes in attitudes and policies
concerning marginalized children, youth, adult (Woman and Man) community
through their organization and empowerment.

Non-Discriminatory: Build respect for individual/human
religious, region, caste, political lines and gender.

exchanging their learning and best practices to the other
farmers in Sindhuli.
Total 20 women were trained on embroidery and four among
the 20 got relevant job on different organizations in Sindhuli.
20 families dependency on forest firewood minimized
through use of Bio- gas in Dhanusa.
Provided market development training for the local farmer
for potential market promotion

such as fruit farming, livestock raising

Local market system has been established in 2 VDCs of north
Sindhuli district and linked with the road corridor of
Sindhuli-Banepa highway
A women cooperative is established in the rural area of
Sindhuli district for promoting economic activities of rural
women.
Women access to VDCs health post regarding RH services
has been increased by 50% after training and mobilizing of
25 Mother Child health motivators in two VDCs of Sindhuli.
59 beneficiary families of drinking water project maintaining
drinking water system and using clean toilet properly.
252 HHS facility on safe drinking water water
1150 school children facility on safe drinking on government
school
1,000 students including child clubs’ members of different
schools made aware on HIV/AIDS.
VDC level program on HIV/AIDS awareness including blood
test organized in most vulnerable Hatpate and Sirthouli VDCs
in Sindhuli. As a result, 42 youths were motivated for testing
for HIV/AIDS.
Organized 2 camps on HIV/AIDS and distributed 750
condoms in rural market (HAT BAZAR).
42 members of marginalized cast (Majhi and Danuwar)
formed 6 Human Right activist groups, advocating on Human
rights and collected and submitted issues of the marginalized
communities to the Constitutional Assembly through
BishamLalDanuar, CA member.
120 graduate women from the literacy classes have been
implementing their literacy and numeracy skills in their daily
lives and encouraging community people sending their girl
child to the school.
