Student Leadership for Sustainability Workshop
One-day workshop for teachers, principals, assistant principals, curriculum or career
coordinators, plus sustainability educators
This workshop will give you the latest research findings on youth leadership for sustainability, plus the guidance and
resources to run student leadership programs in your own school, with support from the TLfS team. (Suitable for primary
and secondary schools)

What you will get from the day
 The latest research on youth leadership for sustainability and resources that you can use with your own
students to guide them to become better leaders
 Guidance in how to best develop your own youth leadership for sustainability plans
 A detailed manual with student activities (aligned to AusVELS) and teacher’s notes
 A copy of the Ollie’s Island CD ROM

 Share the successes and challenges of your own school sustainability and youth leadership initiatives
 Meet other teachers – hear about their projects and learn from them
Facilitated by
Pat Armstrong and Jane Stewart will conduct the workshop. Pat and Jane bring a wealth of knowledge and
experience in leadership and education for sustainability.
Lunch, morning tea and afternoon tea will be provided.
The workshop will help you with the following
questions:
1. What is the latest research in leadership for young
people?
2. How can you help your students become better leaders
for sustainability?
3. What role can student leaders play in a school’s
sustainability program?
4. How can student leadership programs help your school
to either implement or extend Resource Smart Schools
– AuSSI Vic?
5. How does student leadership for sustainability help your
students achieve learning outcomes in AuSVELS or
VCAL?
6. What resources and support services are available to
help you to foster student leadership?

to understand the world around them; to
learn how to live more sustainably; to
improve their skills in leadership, thinking,
problem-solving, teamwork and
communication; to apply these skills to
meaningful sustainability projects; and to
act ethically and responsibly.
