For us, sustainability means balancing our social, environmental and economic responsibilities. The Environmental Policy outlines how we seek to meet our environmental responsibilities. Objectives In meeting our environmental responsibilities we seek to achieve the following strategic objectives: Environment – Significantly more with significantly less Optimise the sustainable use of alternate water through Integrated Water Cycle Management Balance the needs of our customers and the environment in managing the supply and demand for water Protect the environment and minimise any adverse impact of our business on the environment Towards zero waste Customers – Right product, right price, right way Our customers are efficient water users and clean and efficient producers Community – Leading and including Community leader and advocate in water cycle management Partnering for sustainable outcomes and a healthy urban habitat Financial and Economic – Efficiency and growth Continuous improvement towards peak efficiency Seek opportunities to benefit from sector-wide efficiency initiatives Balance risks and benefits to optimise triple bottom line return to the shareholder To achieve these objectives we are committed to developing and delivering on our Environmental Sustainability Plan, which outlines goals, targets and programs for the current Water Plan period. Scope We consider each of these objectives in all of our business decisions. Our Environmental Management System (EMS) provides a structure to deliver our environmental responsibilities, which include: Prevention of pollution - Reducing adverse environmental impacts by avoiding, reducing and controlling pollution from our operations Continual improvement and learning – Improving overall environmental performance through a recurring process consisting of policy setting, planning, implementation, auditing and management review Compliance with applicable legal requirements and with other requirements to which we subscribe Promote open exchange of environmental information (including on our significant environmental aspects) with customers, suppliers and the community to improve environmental awareness and to obtain feedback on our environmental performance Intergenerational equity - Respecting the needs of current and future generations Enhancing the environmental performance and resource efficiency of customers, contractors, suppliers and other stakeholders where the outcomes are consistent with our business objectives. Identifying objectives, targets and actions in our Environmental Sustainability Plan to address these significant risks and continually improve our environmental performance. Taking actions necessary to respond to the challenges of climate change Implementing the actions in our Environmental Sustainability Plan to meet the objectives and targets. Reviewing the targets and actions set out in the Environmental Sustainability Plan by City West Water’s Board and Community Liaison Committee (CLC) at regular intervals. Reporting progress against the targets and actions set out in the ESP to the City West Water Board, Executive Management Committee and the community. Publicly reporting on our environmental performance via our Annual Report and the City West Water website. Roles and Responsibilities We assign accountability for implementing this policy to our management team. The Executive Management Committee is responsible for incorporating our environmental responsibilities into business planning and operational activities. The Board will oversee implementation of the policy. The General Manager Customers, Community and Environment is responsible for directing, reviewing and reporting upon the implementation of the Environmental Policy in City West Water. All employees are responsible for developing an understanding of how their work functions are affected by this Policy.
