Campus Sustainability Program Overview
Organization: Campus Sustainability


Reports directly to Billv and the EHS Headquarters Office
Analogous to peer universities’ Office of Sustainability to provide a focal point and “hub” for
diverse campus sustainability activities
Purpose:

Broad objective:
o Advance Institute commitments and leadership in environmental stewardship across all
of MIT’s operations and activities.
 Energy efficiency, conservation, renewables
 Transportation
 Pollution prevention
 Waste minimization and recycling
 Food and dining services
 Community engagement and behavior change
 Educational opportunities

Specific responsibilities:
o Advise and support the administration and DLC’s on approaches and focal areas for
sustainability
 Also help plan and execute
o
Ensure close coordination with Facilities, DSL, and Academic units so we are all pulling
in the right direction
 MITEI and the Task Force: primary administrative liaison and coordinator
o
Communicate and engage with MIT community (and beyond) MIT’s approach, progress,
and opportunities to get involved
o
Implement and manage specific sustainability programs
 Departmental support (e.g. VPF e-W2 rollout support, Procurement Staples pilot
work)
 Green Ambassadors
 Solar PV grant program
 Student project grant program (MITEI)
 Outreach and communications program
