JOB PURPOSE:
To create the optimum environment to enhance the reputation and brand of UEL by
engaging stakeholders, decision makers and political influencers in imaginative, innovative
and varied ways.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To engage proactively key stakeholders including, but not limited to, staff, students,
alumni, honoraries, governors, decision makers and political influencers

To research market intelligence to maximise the chances of producing high quality
and prestigious events, including graduation

To assist the Communications Manager (Events) with the administration, coordination and delivery of high profile corporate events in consultation with the Head
of Brand & Reputation Management

To train and manage temporary members of staff and student ambassadors to a high
standard during any event, including graduation, on the necessary administrative
system

To oversee the input, collation and analysis of data received by corporate systems as
well as arranging financial systems training in liaison with other departments for use
in market and research intelligence

To be the focal point for student and staff enquiries relating to all aspects of all
events, including graduation, liaising with external companies where necessary to
ensure, people, processes and facilities are in place to ensure a successful event

To plan and deliver high profile internal and external events which enhance the
reputation and brand of the UEL, often under pressure and to tight deadlines

To advise and assist where necessary in events planned by students, schools and
services

To attend and facilitate key stakeholder meetings and events which enhance the
reputation and brand of the UEL, often at short notice

To work with colleagues in the Corporate Communications Team to publicise and
maximise internal and external media coverage

To work with graphic designers to produce internal and external written publications
for publicity and communications purposes

To work with Communications Officers (Writer) in proof reading, sub-editing and
checking the factual accuracy of communications and key messages regarding
publicity before they are published

To liaise, court and understand the needs of key stakeholders including, but not
limited to, staff, students, alumni, honoraries, governors, decision makers and
political influencers

To write press releases and provide adequate information so colleagues in the
Communications Officer (Writers) can write stories with speed, accuracy and verve
and upload content to digital platforms to enhance the UEL’s reputation and brand

To spot opportunities for marketing, advertising and enhancing the reputation and
brand of the UEL

To spot and prevent events which are likely to bring the UEL into disrepute and harm
its brand

To find successful strategies to deal with events harmful to UEL’s reputation and
brand

To research and develop innovative ideas and working practices which enable UEL
to remain ahead of its competitors

To raise funds and find ways of monetising products and core skills

To carry out risk assessments in line with current H&S procedures

To carry out checks on the availability of facilities when liaising with internal and
external organisations

carrying out due diligence in ensuring that internal and external individuals and
organisations taking part in events at the UEL do not harm its brand or reputation




PERSON SPECIFICATION
EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS AND ACHIEVEMENTS
Essential criteria:

A minimum BA Hons. degree or equivalent professional experience

Knowledge and Experience

Essential Criteria:

Ability to demonstrate the engagement of key stakeholders including, but not limited
to, staff, students, alumni, honoraries, governors, decision makers and political
influencers

Ability to demonstrate research skills and setting up of data bases for market
research

Ability to demonstrate a proven ability to initiate and implement marketing strategies
and sales tactics

Ability to demonstrate the planning and delivery of successful prestigious events for
internal and external markets

Ability to demonstrate understanding of exploiting markets and advertising platforms
to enhance the reputation and UEL brand

Ability to demonstrate a high level of customer service experience

Desirable Criteria:

Proven experience of working with a commercial marketing, PR or events
organisation

Proven experience of planning and delivering successful events for commercial
organisations

Proven experience of sales or fund raising

Ability to demonstrate usage of Social Media, SEO and Content Management
Systems to optimise reputation and brand management

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Essential Criteria

An excellent communicator who can liaise with and satisfy often demanding clients,
suggest ideas and deliver a first class product

Ability to use creativity and initiative to engage and deliver high end events from start
to finish with little or no direction.

Ability to remain calm under pressure, operate in a crisis and deliver to very tight and
demanding deadlines

Ability to network, build contacts and look for opportunities to enhance UEL’s
reputation and brand

Willingness to work some long days, evenings and weekends (with agreed time off in
lieu)

Desirable Criteria:

A proven track record in commercial activities pertaining to events management, fund
raising and sales
