Derbyshire Wildlife Trust JOB DESCRIPTION: Job Title: Limestone Journeys Projects Officer Accountable to: Conservation Manager Line management responsibility for: Volunteers assisting with people & wildlife projects Job Purpose: To deliver a programme of work which inspires the people of Derbyshire about their wildlife and their landscape. Main Responsibilities: 1. Deliver the obligations laid out in contracts between DWT and the Creswell Heritage Trust for work in support of Limestone Journeys 1.1. Deliver work on the (i) Sense of Place and Wildlife Guardians, (ii) Limestone Habitat Restoration 1.2. Process claims and report to funders appropriately. 1.3. Recruit, manage and train volunteers to assist in this work. 1.4. Publicise and promote the Trust’s people engagement services. 2. Participate in the work of cross-cutting teams (project/area teams) 2.1. Join those project or area teams deemed necessary by the senior management team to best deliver the Trust’s strategic priorities and attend relevant meetings as directed by your line manager 2.2. Use your specialist skills and experience alongside other colleagues to ensure the integrated delivery of project or area teams under the coordination of the Director of Living Landscapes. 2.3. Assist in seeking funding for the future resourcing and development of the Trust’s people engagement work. 2.4. Work with your line manager to balance your workload in order to best focus your time on delivering the Trust’s priority objectives. Our current strategic plan, A Living Landscape for Derbyshire1, requires the Trust to deliver reserve management, conservation advice and the engagement of people in an integrated and mutually supportive fashion. To further this delivery the Board of Trustees approved in January 2011 an organisational structure in which (i) operational staff are organised in teams by speciality, and (ii) all staff come together in formalised living landscape/ area/ project teams to function as and when needed, under the coordination of the Director of Living Landscapes and other senior managers. Through their jobs all staff have a responsibility for achieving the Trust’s objectives as defined in the current strategic plan: Create a Living Landscapes in Derbyshire Inspire the people of Derbyshire about their wildlife Stand up for wildlife and Derbyshire’s natural environment Base our work on knowledge and understanding Secure recognition and respect for our work Grow our resources and increase support for our mission The post of Limestone Journeys Projects Officer is required to deliver the Trust’s obligations for people engagement and habitat restoration work through those projects supported by grants and/or contracts issued by the Creswell Heritage Trust on behalf of the Limestone Journeys partnership. Fulfilling the conditions of this external funding to the satisfaction of funders, collaborators and partners is a key requirement of the post. The post of Limestone Journeys Projects Officer will also be required to maintain existing and establish new relationships with members of the public, landowners and farmers, parents and children, volunteers, and with people in other organisations including schools, youth and community groups and other similar organisations. The job requires the post holder to be able work alone under their own initiative to achieve agreed objectives. Although based at the Trust’s head office, currently in Belper but due to relocate in 2015, the post will require extensive periods of time to be spent at other locations including Creswell Crags. Some weekend and evening work, and frequent travel within the county, as well as occasional travel outside Derbyshire, will be required. The post holder is required to provide suitable transport, for which appropriate expenses are reimbursed, should Trust vehicles not be available. DWT Strategic Development Plan Staff are required to work within and apply the policies and procedures of the Trust and where appropriate other partner organisations. The post holder will be required to provide appropriate assistance and advice to other staff and volunteers when desirable for the effective undertaking of their respective responsibilities, and to undertake other duties appropriate to their post as delegated by their line manager. A willingness to be flexible about working arrangements and to provide occasional cover for absent staff is desirable in order to maintain organisational effectiveness. Staff are encouraged to participate in fora and initiatives relevant to their work, the Wildlife Trusts, and other organisations. This post will involve contact with children and vulnerable adults.
