JOB DESCRIPTION CATHEDRAL WARDEN REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS The Cathedral Wardens report to the Security and Fire Manager through the Security Supervisor. OVERALL PURPOSE To provide a safe and secure environment for the Cathedral and its Precincts by working in a uniformed team and reflecting the Ministry of Welcome. PRINCIPAL TASKS Conduct regular patrols during daylight hours, monitoring all vehicles parked within the Precincts and assisting Cathedral staff on request. Wardens will also maintain a high profile presence to all members of the visiting public. Carry out patrols during the silent hours at irregular intervals according to specified instruction in relation to sensitive areas within the Precincts. Maintain a smart and high profile presence at the following entry points into the Precincts; the Postern Gate, Christchurch Gate, Mint Yard Gate and the Quenin Gate, and to issue and monitor car passes as required and ensuring that only authorised vehicles enter the Precincts, Assistance will be offered to all pedestrians who enter or leave the Precincts. Carry out emergency procedures agreed in written instructions by the Dean and Chapter, in response to any Fire alarm or Intruder alarm. In the event that the emergency services are required to attend it is the responsibility of the Wardens to call for assistance. Be competent by undergoing instruction in the following areas Fire-Fighting and the Morseman check point system which is located throughout the Cathedral, and in Health and Safety awareness. This will be part of on-going training Monitor sub-contracted areas within the Precincts at all times, ensuring the premises are safe and secure once the contractors have finished. Maintain at all times a sense of alertness to Vandalism, Vagrancy, Theft of Property and any type of Assault committed within the Precincts, responding as required. Maintain regular contact with each other, responding promptly to calls for assistance if so required. To this end all wardens will be instructed in the use of Radio Communications. Be first aid qualified and administer first aid when necessary. Take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and other people who may be affected by what you do or do not do at work. As an Employee of the Dean and Chapter to fully endorse, understand and exercise the roles and responsibilities contained within the Dean and Chapter’s Health and Safety policy which is set out in the Staff Handbook. Carry out any reasonable task that may be required by the Dean and Chapter. As part of a high profile team that represents the Cathedral it is expected that the dress, bearing and behaviour of the Wardens will be beyond reproach at all times. HOURS Approximately 48 hours per week working 4 x 12 hour shifts including days, nights and weekends. Day shift 06:00 to 18:00, night shift 18:00 to 06:00. The position holder should be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will be dictated by operational needs. Overtime is offered to Wardens who opt out of the 48 hour Working Time Regulations. Cathedral Warden November 2012 SALARY AND BENEFITS Salary Pension Life Assurance Workwear Holiday Basic salary £15,924 per annum plus 15% unsociable shift allowance when undertaking night shifts. Standard time bonuses are paid for hours worked on Christmas Day, New Years Day and Easter Monday. The Dean and Chapter contribute 7½% of salary into a Stakeholder Pension Scheme. Staff in the pension scheme are also insured against death in service 3 x annual salary to the age of 70. Protective clothing will be provided. Based upon the working hours stated above, the annual entitlement is 26 days (312 hours) which includes public holidays and Dean and Chapter days. This position is exempt from the provision of Section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 by virtue of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975. The grounds on which it is exempt are that in the normal course of your duties you will have access to persons under the age of 18, and that your normal duties will be carried out wholly or partly on the same premises where the provision of training to persons under 18 takes place.
