These sample results may also be used in the calculation of trade effluent charges imposed on the trader. This role involves the collection of all types of samples from industrial premises throughout Northern Ireland and the delivery of samples to either specified collection points and/or the analytical laboratory Key Activities – Duties & Responsibilities: Sample Collection and Delivery Set-up and retrieve automatic samplers at numerous industrial premises throughout Northern Ireland. This may involve heavy lifting e.g. crates containing full sample bottles, sampler bases containing 24 full sample bottles etc This may require the lifting and replacement of manhole covers. Sampling will also include spot sampling and collection of tankered samples at designated points. Visual interrogation of samples and recording of any anomalies on pro-formas or recording devices. Planning Simple on site tests which may include pH, temperature, etc and recording of such results. Delivery of samples to courier and/or receiving laboratory. Routine planned maintenance and preparation of portable sampling equipment. Routine maintenance and cleanliness of vehicle. Problem Solving Assist in the development of a trade effluent sampling programme. Processing Assist in the investigation of pollution incidents by participating in sampling surveys at both industrial premises and within NIW’s infrastructure system. Completion of all paperwork associated with sample collection and the use of electronic devices to record data as required. Internal: Line management Liaise with line manager to discuss any trade effluent issues and problems encountered while on trade effluent premises. External: Trade effluent customers Liaise with customers and ensure good communication at all times Page 2 of 4 SGB2 Sampler NIWL 315/10/2011 Essential Criteria Applicants MUST be able to demonstrate in their application form and where necessary at interview: Essential: 5 GCSE/GCE ‘O’ Level passes at grade C or above (or an equivalent qualification) to include English Language and Maths. At least 6 months experience of taking samples, carrying out on-site tests and accurately recording data. At least 6 months experience planning and organising sampling schedule on a daily / weekly basis. A full current driving licence enabling the postholder to drive in Northern Ireland as they will be required to drive Northern Ireland Water vehicles. Assist in emergencies and incidents and if necessary be prepared to join a standby rota to provide cover out of office hours. Desirable At least 12 months experience of taking samples, carrying out on-site tests and accurately recording data. At least 12 months experience planning and organising sampling schedule on a daily / weekly basis.
