Botanic Gardens of South Adelaide January 2015 School Holiday Program The Botanic Gardens of South Australia will be running school holiday activities suitable for 5-12 year olds during January. Activities are designed to promote fun, hands on learning about plants, people and the environment and they all take place under the shade on Plane Tree Lawn (or in the Bicentennial Conservatory during inclement weather). If in doubt, please contact the Botanic Gardens on 8222 9311 the morning of the activity. No need to book but Parental supervision essential. SLOW SUMMER PROGRAM In anticipation of a long, hot summer we’ll be slowing down under the shade on Plane Tree Lawn from 10am – 2pm. You can paint a pot and plant some seeds, or paint a garden gnome (priced from $7). PLUS… We’ll have great range of different activity choices popping up from 11am as well as free garden adventure maps and ideas. Please note: Activities are available while stocks last. Smocks and gardening gloves are available to painters and potters. Check out the timetable below for a daily rundown and refer to the blackboard on the day for more info… More about Pop Ups… Fake Fossils ($6) Excavate a fossil block to discover all kinds of fake fossils like trilobites, ammonites, dinosaur teeth and more. Ask us for a garden adventure map to discover some of the Gardens ‘dinosaur‘ plants. Bug Plaques / Plant Markers ($7) Paint a decorative plaque to mark the location of your favourite plants. Hanging Shells / Sea Stars ($8) Paint a hanging sea themed decoration, perfect for the garden. Compost Critters (FREE) Have a dig around in our compost pit and use your magnifying glass to explore the critters that call the compost heap home. Cactus! ($12 Lg /$10 Med /$6 Sml) Paint a pot and plant a cactus or succulent. Ask for a garden adventure map to discover the Cactus Garden. Plant heads ($6) Plants can grow in some crazy places! Use a stocking, pipe cleaners and other fun stuff to create a head or animal that will grow real plant ‘hair’. Ask for a garden adventure map to discover some plants growing in crazy places! Making Fire, Making Glue (1 Hour) Free Learn how Aboriginal people make fire using just what is around them in the Australian bush. Make your own glue from plants! Meet on the Schomburgk Pavilion if it is too hot or raining it will be held in the Lecture Theatre of the Goodman Building, Adelaide Botanic Garden – no bookings required.
