Daily Objective: Students will be able to analyze theme and character development along with other
dramatic elements during film study.
TEKS/AP/Standards:
o To consider a work’s structure, style, and themes as well as such smaller scale
elements as the use of figurative language, imagery, symbolism, and tone.
o To study representative works from various genres and periods (from the sixteenth to the
twentieth century) and to know a few works extremely well.
Learning Activities:
o Film Study Socratic seminar: Streetcar film clips [Vivien Leigh/Marlon Brando version]
o Desks will be placed in a modified arrangement so as to spur discussion when film is paused.
Film study questions will be used to guide discussion and structure it accordingly.
Major Upcoming Assessment: The Awakening Prose Analysis Essay [March 11/12]
Checks for Understanding: Call and response during viewing; written responses to film study questions

 Teacher modeled prose analysis of the first two chapters of The Awakening—(modeling the
same task all students will complete for the prose paragraph/presentation assignment)
 Students independently practice prose analysis of chapters 3-6; write/pair/share
