Trip Description:
This 3 mile hike starts with a long uphill to where the granite formations jut out from the hillside. We will
explore the formations and enjoy the awesome views from the top before we continue around the loop back to
the car. The weather this time of year can bring the first storms of winter so we will need to be prepared for the
cold, but a relaxing soak in the Hot Springs after this hike will make up for any chill winds or snow encountered
during the hike. (pool pass not included)
Things to bring:
 Daypack - to carry food, water and spare clothes for the day
 Hiking boots with warm wool socks
 Warm (non-cotton) clothes – synthetic long underwear top, fleece jacket, long underwear bottoms and
quick dry pants - no blue jeans!
 Light insulating jacket (down or synthetic)
 Rain Jacket and Rain Pants
 Warm winter hat
 Gloves
 Headlamp
 Lunch, snacks, and money for a pool pass if desired
 Water bottles (2 quarts/liters minimum)
 Swimsuit and towel!!

Safety and Risk Management:
Due to the nature of outdoor travel there are certain inherent risks in all of Outdoor Adventure’s trips.
Acceptable risks include but are not limited to; hiking over rough uneven terrain with a heavy backpack on,
hiking up and down steep inclines with muddy and loose footing, crossing creeks and swampy ground, having
wet feet and clothing. Conditions may include below freezing temperatures, thunderstorms, rain, sleet and
high winds. Driving risks may include slick roads, poor visibility and wildlife. Alaska is a wild place - you need
to take ultimate responsibility for your own safety as only you can. For your protection we require you to carry
health insurance. You can purchase insurance for $2.60/day from the University (ask for details). All info is
subject to change due to safety, weather, current conditions, etc.!
