Donald Ahrens (available at McGill bookstore); The other recent editions (7 and 9) are equally fine. Prerequisites: None! Calculus is banned from this course, and only common sense scientific knowledge is needed. Come with an open mind and curiosity. We use it for some demonstrations but you are not required to use any in the exams! Evaluation Assignments (& Quiz) Midterm test 3-hour final examination 15% 35% 50% There will be about 6 assignments in the term. We encourage to hand in assignments to one of our Tas (to be assigned) prior to noon of the due dates. Otherwise, late assignments will be assessed as a grade of zero. The graded assignments should be picked up the following week from the same office (There will be a box outside her office). The midterm and final will consist of a combination of multiple choice and short answer questions. The final will cover the material for the entire course. There will be a supplemental examination, which will contribute to 50% of the final grade in the course. The remainder of the grade will be calculated based on the marks obtained on the assignments and midterm. No extra work will be accepted to supplement the grade obtained in the assignments, midterm, or final. We will put the lecture notes and assignments on this website (right after each lecture).
