Dear Parents,
This letter is to inform you of our star rating according to the Nevada Schools Performance Framework (NSPF)
which is in place of the previous Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). McGill was ranked as a 1-STAR school for the
2013-2014 School Year.
All Nevada schools are “graded” on the following criteria: the growth measure of achievement – which means
students are rated over time and by comparison with others; reductions in achievement gaps – which means
that certain populations of students are monitored for closing the achievement gap with others; test
participation – which means that a minimum of 95% of our students must take the annual CRT; student
measures of achievement – which means those students who meet or exceed state standards on the CRT; and
student attendance – which means we are graded on our average daily attendance – which means we need
every student in school every day!
Based upon levels of student proficiency, academic growth, and achievement gaps, schools may be identified
as Reward, Focus, or Priority schools. McGill is a Focus school. Focus schools will receive increased levels of
support in the areas of professional development targeted toward academic deficiencies, teacher and
administrative coaching and mentoring, and increased technical assistance that is focused on specifically
identified areas of needed improvement.
McGill Elementary School is addressing achievement challenges through professional development for
teachers, administrators, and support staff. Priority needs have been identified and school goals are focused
on eliminating subgroup performance gaps in math and reading. We also have a system of interventions in
place to address learning deficits as they occur throughout the year.
This summer McGill Elementary School will be reviewing our parent involvement policy and school
performance plan. We will send out notifications as to when and where these meetings will be held. We
encourage you to participate in the review of these documents and welcome your feedback on ways to
improve or revise these documents.
