Stephen J. Knerly, Jr. (“Josh”), Partner of Hahn Loeser + Parks, LLP. Josh focuses his practice in nonprofit corporate law, art law, closely-held and family owned businesses and international transactions. He served as the firm's Chief Executive Officer and Managing Partner from 1993 through 2008. Josh counsels closely held and family owned businesses in acquisitions, dispositions, mergers, generation transfers, dispute resolution and commercial transactions. He also has experience in international commercial transactions, including counseling U.S. companies in foreign operations and foreign businesses in their U.S. activities. Josh assists nonprofit corporations in matters such as corporate governance, legislative issues and general corporate matters and tax issues. He has also represented museums in many different matters including acquisitions, construction and expansion projects, outsource agreements, legislative issues, dispute resolution and executive compensation agreements. Josh also represents buyers and sellers of art in domestic and international transactions; negotiation of acquisition, sale and auction transactions; claims with respect to return of stolen or illegally exported art; and estate planning concerning art collections. Josh is a member of the State of Ohio's Global Markets Advisory Team. He is listed in the 2007-10 editions of The Best Lawyers in America for NonProfit/Charities Law, and in the 2004, 2005 & 2006 editions of "Ohio Super Lawyers" by Law & Politics magazine. Josh is also AV Rated by MartindaleHubbell. Josh is on the Board of the Greater Cleveland Chapter of the American Red Cross. He is Trustee and Secretary of the French American Chamber of Commerce and Consul Honoraire de France for Northern Ohio. He is a member of the Corporate Council of the Cleveland Botanical Garden and of the Business Leadership Council of the Cleveland Museum of Art. Josh has been a Corporate Member of The Holden Arboretum since 2001 and has been an invaluable member of the Governance Committee. He is an alumnus of Leadership Cleveland, Class of 2001. Josh is associated with the International Law Section, Cultural Property Committee for the American Bar Association, and the Art, Cultural Heritage and Institutions Committee for the International Bar Association. He is an American Bar Foundation Fellow, a member of the Institute of Art and Law, Case Western Reserve University School of Law Society Benches, and the Ohio State Bar Association. Josh received his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. He also has an A.M. from Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, an A.B. (History and French) from Bowdoin College.
