How to Succeed in Ms. Wharmby’s Classroom General Classroom Expectations: 1. Come prepared. Blue or Black ink pens and pencils, a red pen, loose-leaf paper, free reading book, COMPLETED homework, and your 3” binder (for all classes) with tab dividers and pencil pouch every day. You will also need a composition notebook that will stay in class as your learning log. 2. Listen when others speak. 3. Be respectful of everyone. There are many different people and ideas in our classroom and we never criticize any of them. 4. PARTICIPATE! 5. ASK QUESTIONS! 6. No candy, food, or drink in the classroom. 7. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS! Consequences: 1. Verbal Warning 2. Seat Change 3. Silent Lunch 4. Phone call home/Bounce/ICU 5. Referral to administration *Consequences and rewards will be kept track of quarterly. A student receives a consequence for coming unprepared, talking, disrespect, or disregarding other school rules. ** If you receive no consequences in a quarter, you will get an invitation to the quarterly celebration. *** Serious offenses may mean a different course of action. You know how to behave, and you are expected to do so. If, unfortunately, you choose not to fulfill these expectations, the school’s disciplinary plan will be followed and the appropriate action will be taken. Rewards: 1. 2. 3. 4. You LEARN! We have fun! Positive notes/calls home Special treats, activities, and privileges When You Enter the Room: 1. Wait for your learning log to be put at your seat. 2. Start your warm-up (on the projector) 3. Take out your agenda and copy down your homework (and leave it on your desk for me to check) 4. Have any homework out on your desk and ready to be turned in During class: 1. Raise your hand when you wish to speak or leave your seat. Don’t yell out- wait for me to call on you! 2. When others are speaking, you are listening. 3. Class work is completed in class, and homework at home. Keep it that way! Team and School Policies 1. Follow the dress code at all times. 2. Bathroom breaks happen before 1st block, before F.A.T., and during lunch. At all other times you must use one of your agenda passes to use the restroom. 3. You can only access your locker before 1st block and at the end of 3rd block. There’s no going back and forth, so don’t leave supplies there! Other “Stuff”: 1. Makeup work should be picked up from me on the day you return to class. All assignments are posted online, so if you miss class, check there first. You have as many days as you were absent to return work (ex: if you miss one class on Mon., the assignment will be due Wednesday). Please let me know if any circumstance prevents this! 2. All homework will be turned in or reviewed at the beginning of class on the day it is due. Papers, homework, outside reading, and projects that are not turned in on time lose five points the first day, and then ¼ credit if turned in more than one day late. 3. Each missing homework assignment must be completed in homework room during lunch and F.A.T. the day it was missed. Book Borrowing 1. Along with the media center, students have access to my personal classroom collection. Students must sign out and check in these books, but can borrow for any length of time. Please understand that students are responsible for their loss or damage, and may need to replace a book if this occurs. 2. Also, Parents: please monitor your child’s literature choices. They are responsible for their choices, and though all books are CMS approved, some books may address topics you don’t want your child to have access to. You are responsible for ensuring whether or not they are appropriate for your child.
