BAYFIELD ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE COMMUNITY SOLAR SURVEY
We would like your feedback about Bayfield Electric Cooperative building a Community Solar Farm. Community solar is a new concept where members purchase solar photovoltaic panels installed with other member’s panels in a “Community Solar Farm”.
Members receive credit on their electric bill for electricity their panel(s) produces
and locks in their future cost of electricity. Many electric cooperatives like Vernon,
Tri-County, and St. Croix Electric have already installed community solar farms and
many more are being planned. It is a great investment.
Might you as a Bayfield Electric Member be interested in buying a panel or share?
Here are some facts to help guide you in making the decision:
• A typical panel or share will cost approximately $500 and the return on your investment (ROI), credited to your electric bill would be about 5% the first year. As electric
rates go up, your credit would go up and your ROI would go up. No one can predict
future rates, but using the past 20 years as a basis, your ROI 20 years from now
might be 9% or more.
• To offset the electricity used by a typical house it would be necessary to purchase 2530 shares (7000 watts of solar panels). A member can purchase one share or many
shares.
• Average life expectancy of a panel is up to 50 years, warranted. Members do not
have to worry about maintenance or repair, it is included.
• If you move and are no longer a member of Bayfield Electric Cooperative, you can
sell your panels.
This is a survey for a potential project, so the price and return stated above is an estimate. Before you commit to purchase an exact price will be given. The project would be pre-sold with a
down payment and balance due later.
