Three Ring Ranch Exotic Animal Sanctuary 75-809 Keaolani Dr.,Kailua-Kona, Hawaii 96740 phone 808 331-8778 animals@threeringranch.org www.threeringranch.org Aloha, The Three Ring Ranch is planning an online auction fundraising event for November 2011. This event will take the place of the typical non-profit gala where attendance requires the purchase of a ticket. By holding our event online rather than at a resort, we hope that our supporters will be more generous in their bidding. Our event will be advertised as “Holiday shopping in your PJs and helping the critters be Merry”. Please take a few minutes to learn a bit of who we are and what we are doing? Then please consider donating to our auction. Your donation is fully tax deductible and 100% of all funds raised support the care & feeding of the animals and educational programs. The web site is already up with the early donations, it is being shared through social media networks and each of our donors is displayed http://sas-demo-1-com.si-sv2521.com/catalog.aspx There is no other facility like ours anywhere in Hawaii. We are not a “future facility” seeking funds and paying staff salaries while no rehabilitation occurs. We care for all native species, from all islands, provide advice and support to veterinarians on all islands, train other rehabilitators on all islands, and train Humane Society staff. For more than eleven years (Incorporated in June of 1999) we have been rehabilitating Hawaii’s native and endangered species and have cared for those exotic creatures already within the state who needed a safe refuge, on our five-acre site. Our barn, hospital, aviaries, wetlands and fields serve a wide variety of animals. Our volunteer BOD is made up of esteemed professionals who are considered experts in their fields. We are not open to the general public since this facility is the animals’ home and because it would be detrimental to our rehabbing patients. Private educational excursions are available for visitors by appointment. The tour takes 2 hours and is reported to be the highlight of many Hawaii visitor’s vacations. We are the only accredited Sanctuary in Hawaii (by The American Sanctuary Association and the Global Federation of Sanctuaries) and are fully licensed by USF&W Service and State agencies. The Hands-on Science Center allows students of all ages to explore the detailed lives of our residents. Students utilize lab equipment and monitor the animals’ health while developing an understanding of scientific principals. Rare and endangered animal specimens donated by USF&W Services are used to teach about each species unique way of survival. Our facility is clean and green. We won a Keeping It Green business award issued to a business in 2009 and now have a net-metered photovoltaic system on our roof which generates clean renewable energy for our daily activities. Organization & Accomplishments: Mission Statement: To understand the project you must first know our Mission... Our mission is to positively impact the environment while educating Hawaii’s children about their place in the natural world. Our goal is to assist in the development of an environmentally responsible generation of youth. We teach about the fragile ecosystem we impact on a daily basis, while giving visitors a rare chance to see the animals up close. Injured native animals are brought to us, cared for, and released upon recovery. Exotic animals live out their natural lives at the facility as residents. Currently: · Our educational programs for young people (classroom and mentoring) are receiving statewide and national notice. We were featured in Hawaiian Airlines Innov8 magazine November 2010 issue. Also in the 2011March/April Ke’ola magazine which helped to raise visitor’s awareness so that while here in Hawaii they are more respectful of wildlife. Currently our educational video is in the long editing process. This three DVD video of our classroom series will be available along with teaching guides to teachers across the country in 2012. · So far, in our classroom series, we have taught more than 8,600 children about the fragile ecology and delicate balance of the islands (there is no charge for this program). · More than 3,200 people per month view our award winning web site www.threeringranch.org .Please check it out, you will enjoy what you see. · Our outreach educational programs are regularly requested for public events (libraries, schools, shopping centers). · One of our education publications has been selected by the Humane Society of the United States as an instructional hand out. Other published materials are used as behavioral evaluation tools in shelters statewide. · We have consistently published a minimum of two articles per year in animal care journals. The latest article will assist avian keepers and private owners of all parrots to understand the sexual behaviors of their winged friends. The article is in the current Journal of SWAVA. · Getting into one of our residential internships for vet students and pre-vets is quite competitive. We are affiliated with UC Davis, UC Berkeley, University of Washington, Oregon State University, Western University and, of course, both UH Manoa & UH Hilo in Hawaii. Our students are given credit for summer externships where they learn wildlife care, animal behavior and communication and participate in many hands on procedures. We have 100% success at getting our students into veterinary programs. Currently 23 accepted and 1 pending. · Our sub-permittees are located in all areas of the Big Island and we are expanding to train qualified rehabbers on other islands to better serve wildlife. We partner with local agencies in caring for all of the creatures of Hawaii. · Our all-volunteer staff, numbering more than 30, is a resource to other agencies for statewide wildlife care and management. Over the years, we have served Department of Land & Natural Resources by providing night, weekend and vacation coverage for wildlife calls. Several species we have cared for have been “firsts” for a rehabber. Much of our care has been filmed and documented for science and future educational use. · We are the designated hoary bat rehab and rescue point for the Big Island. We are the only facility to have ever returned an injured hoary bat to the wild. I have been consulted by State wildlife officers to organize care for a bat with a fractured wing in Hilo and to coordinate care for an injured bat on Maui. · The Hawaii County Council provided funding for the animals care and the vet & pre-vet programs through the 2009 budget year. Since that time no further funds have been available. The downturned economy hit us hard in 2010 but we were able to complete each and every project we planned and started under budget and on schedule. Without a fundraising event many or our planned projects for 2012 will not take place. With continuing development in the State the wildlife of Hawaii does not stand a chance of survival unless we take action. Our time needs to be spent caring for the animals and educating our young people. Therefore we feel that an online fundraising event is the best way to accomplish our goals. Please help us with a donation of an auction item. We will be calling in the near future to discuss our event and answer any questions you may have. Gift certificates and auction items should be mailed as soon as possible so that we can create each items online bidding page and give you as much advance PR as possible. We will be sure to credit your company and gladly put a link to your web page right on the items bidding page. We are deeply grateful for your consideration.
