HABERDASHERS’ ASKE’S FEDERATION JOB DESCRIPTION Job title: Reporting to: Vice Principal Principal of Hatcham College PURPOSE The Vice Principal: Teaching role is focussed upon the quality of teaching both within his or her home Academy and across the Federation as a whole. In order for the children and young people of the Federation to make the necessary progress to reach the levels of attainment they need to reach, the quality of teaching judged via a range of evidence including the judgement of all lessons must be at least good and the overall judgement for teaching must be outstanding. Achieving this is the core purpose of this role. The key accountabilities of the post are: Strategic Development To support the Principal in developing and communicating a clear strategic vision to develop the college successfully and to lead to improvement; To take responsibility for those elements of the school’s self-evaluation and improvement plan that pertain to the brief for this role; To share in identifying whole school aims and objectives which have coherence and relevance to the needs of students and to the aims and objectives of the School; To work with colleagues to ensure the creation and implementation of the School Improvement Plan; To share in the effective and efficient management of the school on a daily basis and to maintain a high profile presence for staff and students in the college and promote its ethos; To be a model of high professional standards in all aspects of college life and to lead by example; Contribute to the preparation of all academy documentation, including the college handbook, Governors’ reports, and similar including review of the staff and student handbooks annually; To deputise for the Principal as required. Teaching and learning To establish creative, responsive and effective approaches to learning and teaching in every subject to meet and support the aims of the school; To monitor the quality of teaching; based on evidence, self-evaluation and development, ensuring a consistent and continuous school wide focus on achievement; To explore devise and implement an effective CPD and professional learning strategy to improve the overall quality of teaching; To Ensure that new teachers have the induction and development they need to rapidly become effective members of the teaching workforce of the Federation; To ensure that support is provided for individual teachers where this is needed to ensure their lessons are consistently good; To use data and benchmarks to monitor progress in every child’s learning and to focus teaching; To demonstrate and articulate consistently high expectations of pedagogy and classroom practise to provide challenge and improvement. To liaise and collaborate with the Vice Principal: Teaching of the Federation’s other academies to ensure consistency and best practice across the Federation; Curriculum Development To share in monitoring, reviewing and developing the curriculum offer to ensure that the Academy delivers an appropriate, comprehensive, high quality and cost-effective curriculum that complements the college’s strategic objectives; To keep up to date with national developments in all subject areas and in teaching practice and methodology; To actively monitor and respond to curriculum development and initiatives at national, regional and local levels. Quality Assurance To line manage areas designated by the Principal and to maintain an overview of the line management of all curriculum areas to ensure consistently high quality curriculum leadership across the College and Federation; To implement school monitoring procedures and to ensure adherence to those within identified curriculum areas; To take the lead in the process of the setting of targets within identified curriculum areas and to be the driving force behind working towards their achievement; To establish common standards of practice across the school and develop the effectiveness of teaching and learning styles; To be able to use a range of evidence/data to support, monitor, evaluate and improve performance; To contribute to the Federation quality assurance teams; Produce reports as required within the School self-evaluation systems. Accountability Attend and report to Governors’ meetings as required by the Principal and CEO; To take responsibility for own professional development in discussion with the Principal; Ensure that parents and students are well informed about student attainment and progress and that a high quality reporting system is in place; Encourage and develop good relations between the Academy and the local community. Staff Work collaboratively with the other academies within the Haberdashers’ Federation To Line manage the Assistant Principals for responsible for teaching, data and academic progress and to ensure that all the Middle Leaders within the academy and across the Federation are of high quality and are able to provide the leadership and management necessary to meet subject and overall Academy targets for attainment and progress; To deliver, in conjunction with the Principal, an effective Performance Management framework; To ensure that Staff Development and CPD is rigorous and outcome focussed leading to an increasingly high quality workforce; To be responsible for the delivery of a rigorous, personalised programme for Initial Teacher Training, NQT and new staff induction to ensure that new entrants rapidly understand the expectations of the Academy and Federation.
