Activity 8 Lesson Topic: Earth and Space Science Objectives: This is a project in which student can display information and illustrations about the layers of the Earth. Sections of this project can be organized by color-coding the background paper, and can show the layering effect that make up the structure of the planet Earth. NCTM Content Standard Objectives: Earth and Space Science o Structure of the Earth system o Origin and evolution of the Earth System Ohio Science Academic Content Standards: Students demonstrate an understanding of the composition of the Earth, the geologic system of layering, and how this layering contributes to the structure and stability of the Earth system. Materials: 1 piece 6" x 18" paper Different colors of paper Colored pencils Crayons and/or markers Layers of the Earth transparencies Instructional Strategy: 1. Place the paper in front of you horizontally. 2. Fold it in half. 3. Fold the top page in half by folding it back to meet the fold. Activity 8 4. Turn the paper over. 5. Fold the top page in half by bringing it back to meet the fold. The accordion is made. Use the transparencies to discuss the layers of the Earth with students. Have students each make their own accordion book to show the layers of the Earth through information and illustrations.
