First Annual Cleveland Clinic Multispecialty Pathology Symposium: A Practical Diagnostic Approach to Surgical Pathology & Cytology February 1-2, 2014 Cleveland Clinic Florida | Weston, Florida PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This program will focus on practical and evidence based aspects of managing commonly encountered dilemmas in Gastrointestinal, Urological surgical Pathology, and Cytopathology. This one and a half day symposium will provide guidance to the attendees on diagnosing and handling challenging cases in clinical practice including esophageal diseases, inflammatory bowel disease, colon and rectal cancer, and prostate neoplasia. Cytopathology will emphasize diagnostic challenges in EBUS, pancreatic, and thyroid FNAs, including the role of molecular testing. Each session will offer a didactic presentation that will allocate time for questions from the audience. This course will assist practicing pathologists and residents in maintaining, developing and increasing knowledge, competence and professional performance with the intent to improve patient care and reduce disease impact. PROGRAM SESSIONS: Barrett’s Esophagus Inflammatory Bowel Disease Colon & Rectal Cancer Prostate & Bladder Cancer Cytology LEARNING OBJECTIVES: At the conclusion of this educational activity attendees will be able to: • Identify important pathological factors of prognosis in rectal and colon cancer that are not included in the TNM staging system • Analyze the impact of a meticulous lymph node dissection on prognosis and post-operative treatment decisions • Recognize the typical histopathological features associated with MSI-H colorectal tumors • Distinguish intraductal carcinoma of the prostate from high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia • Recognize histologic variants of prostate cancer mimicking benign conditions • Improve staging in TURBT based on knowledge of bladder microanatomy • Recognize urinary bladder lesions that may have significant overlap with urothelial carcinoma CREDITS: Accreditation Cleveland Clinic Florida is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
