In our thoughts : Amnesty Victim of Injustice Amnesty Victim of Injustice for June – Mexico Claudia Media Tamatiz woke at 3am on 7 August 2012 to find marines had broken into her home in Veracruz City. This mother of three was blindfolded and taken to a naval base where she was severely tortured. She was accused of being a member of a violent criminal gang, which she denies. Claudia was pressured into signing a statement she was not allowed to read. In court she retracted her statement and described the abuse she suffered. All but one of the charges against her were dropped and she was released on bail. To date no specialist medical and psychological assessment has been carried out, as required by the UN guidelines for investigating torture, and no one has been held to account for Claudia's torture.
