ability to learn the complexities of the ancient world history.
GRADES:

a better understanding of what is expected each sixth-grade student. Important, Mr. Garcia grades on a
percentage basis not points. Understand that students must complete all items on the grade scale to pass
the class. It is impossible to fail Mr. Garcia’s class. Those students who participate and do what is
expected of them will pass.
Final – In-class timed written essay
= 25%
Mid-Term – In-class timed written essay
= 25%
Homework – In-class & Home
= 15%
Most of HW assignments will be finished in class,
other than the book chapter section, students will
be given ample time to finish working in class.
Cultural Project –One each quarter
=10%
All students will be required to complete a total of
four cultural assignments. One per quarter base on
what the class is studying at the time

MID-TERM:
Every five weeks of every quarter, students will be given a timed written midterm (25% of overall
grade), based on the ancient civilization covered. Students will learn the proper method in writing a
historical based essay covering the specific points pertaining to ancient world history.
Each consecutive essay, of which there will be a total of four
midterms and four finals, will have an increase in written topics
beginning with the first midterm four to six hundred words, and
ending the year with a 1200 to 2000 word final essay.
FINAL:
At the end of every quarter, 10 week period, each student will be given a timed written final, (25% of
overall grade), based on the ancient civilizations covered. Students will continue to work on the proper
method in writing historical based essays.
HOMEWORK:
Parents can go to the CCUSD ARIES website to get all of your child's CCMS class information
including Mr. Garcia's sixth grade social studies. Parents, although each of the CCMS’ classes meets
three days a week, it is typical that your child will have homework from every class on a daily basis. Is
my philosophy to assign your child new unit chapter work only? I will try to complete all activities in
class, and not assign too much homework. That being said, homework accounts for 15% of the overall
grade. It is your child's responsibility, not yours to review on a daily basis all of the materials covered in
class. Written homework given out is due back completed 100% the following class meeting. Those
students who do not turn in completed work will receive a “0” or no grade. Students must show the
teacher any missed assignment on their own time after school to get full credit. All materials studied in
class, including the course book will be used for testing purposes. Mr. Garcia's intention is to make all
students comfortable seeking help and advice. Students who are ill will be given extra time to complete
their Mr. signed homework without any penalties but, it is the responsibility of all students absent to get
all of and any missed homework assignments." I was absence is no excuse!"
.


CULTURAL PROJECT:
There will be a cultural project due (10% of overall grade), each quarter based on the ancient civilization
studied at the time. Mr. Garcia will assign a general topic to each student to guide them in completing
this assignment.
Students will have as many as 72 days to complete this project each quarter. Parents, you need to monitor
your child and review their time tracker, homework website or Aries account on a daily basis for important
tests and project dates. Mr. Garcia will give many examples from previous projects as a model for all
students.
All projects assigned to can be a video, drawing, creative model, mobile, or diagram, in fact this long is it
the cultural project relates to your topic you can surprise me. Important, you are not spending more than
$2.50 per project per quarter. A total of four projects will be created one each quarter. Things around the
house can be used to make any and all cultural projects, in fact I encourage you to think of things that do not
cost anything to create a cultural project
Important
Because your child is given so much time figuring out, and coming up with a cultural project, Mr.
Garcia will not accept any project after the deadline date, including any absences. You will have
as many as 70 days to complete this project. MR. GARCIA ENCOURAGES ALL STUDENTS
TO TURN IN THEIR PROJECT BEFORE THE DUE DATE, TO LESSEN THE CHANCE OF A
POSSIBLE ABSENCE. Mr. Garcia will give daily in class reminders to his students, as well as
have a written count down on the white-board.
RESEARCH/BROCHURE:
The Research/Brochure project (10% of overall grade); will be given to all students each semester. This
will be a take home assignment to be done at home. Numerous examples will be given to all students to
complete this project. Students will be given as much as three weeks to complete this assignment.
UNIT STANDARD QUIZZES
At the end of every course a quiz (5% of overall grade), will be given. The teacher will view with
students all pertinent information before any and all quizzes with the exception of pop quizzes
POP QUIZZES:
During the course of the academic school year pop quizzes (10% of overall grade), will be given
frequently to all 6th grade students. All pop quizzes will be based on what the class is studying at the
present moment.

the District will bill the cost the parent. Parents can be as much as $70, so make sure that your home
copy is kept away from younger brothers and sisters and most importantly covered
TEST SCHEDULE:
There will be a written midterm and final essay each quarter. A total of four midterms and four finals
will be given during the course of the academic year. The midterm and final account for a total of 50%
of overall grade, standard based quizzes will also be given at the end of every unit. All quizzes will be
based on what the class is studying as the moment. Overall quizzes account for 10% of your grade.
