Prevent falls by removing trip hazards and making sure the house is well lit. Ask about a falls assessment if this is a potential problem. 2. Use a personal alarm to alert people if you fall. 3. Place useful telephone numbers and keys by the phone. 4. Ask your pharmacist about putting your pills into a dosette box. 5. Calendar clocks which show the date and day of the week along with a large ‘week to view diary’ may be helpful. 6. Have the flu vaccine annually and ask about the pneumonia vaccine if you are over-65. 7. Consider getting a ‘chip and signature card’ to manage your money so you don’t have to remember a PIN number. 8. Ask Citizen’s Advice Bureau or Age UK about benefits you may be entitled to and ask someone from these organisations or a social worker or local welfare rights service for help completing the forms which can be long and detailed. 9. Make sure you have an up to date will. 10. Consider setting up a Lasting Power of Attorney. 11. If you drive you must tell the DVLA about your diagnosis. 12. As a carer make sure you look after your health including having a flu vaccine annually. Dementia Support & Carer Information Leaflet Dr Claire James Version 1 - May 2015
