Dear Parents,
Residential Weekend at Château de Chantereine, France
We are writing to give you advance notice that during Summer Term 2015, we are
proposing to give our Year 5 & Year 6 pupils the opportunity to experience a
residential visit at Château de Chantereine, France. Set in the picturesque fishing
village of Criel-sur-Mer, the beautiful 17th century Normandy Château de
Chantereine provides a fantastic opportunity for young people to fully immerse
themselves in the French language and culture and enjoy all that the local way of life
has to offer.
The Chateau is ideally situated at the border of the Normandy and Picardy regions,
and has been carefully chosen to accommodate the specific needs of school tours.
The ancient region of Picardy is home to historic monuments and sites, including the
Battlefields of the Somme, while Normandy has a distinctive character of its own,
with beautiful chalky cliffs, busy seaside resorts and traditional fishing ports. Its
idyllic location on the Albaster Coast is the perfect base to undertake excursions to
the many historical sites, from war memorials and battlefields to markets, museums
and medieval towns.
During the visit, the children will take part in a wide range of exciting activities with
links to key elements of the national curriculum in History, Citizenship and language.
The children will also have lots of opportunities to develop their social skills,
especially the important skills of working together and co-operating as part of a
team.
The proposed visit to Château de Chantereine will take place from Monday 20th to
Friday 24th April 2015. The children, accompanied by members of staff, will leave
school by coach, travelling to France via the Channel Tunnel, continuing to the
Chateau by coach.
Accommodation for both teachers and students is in security code-restricted dorms
which sleep 2-6 children, keeping them safe and secure and giving you complete
peace of mind. The centre site is fully secure with boundary fencing, security gates
and CCTV.
