Dear Parents, I know this information about testing seems to be early; however, preparing your child now will lower stress and burnout. If you would like to ensure the correct level of Achievement testing is ordered, you can order according to ability versus actual grade. This is called, grade adjustment. If the test is too hard and has to be modified, it will not give you a true baseline of your child’s actual abilities. If the child is tested at the incorrect level, it increases the chances of guessing, which gives you useless information. Lastly, there are other options if your child does not meet the state minimum scores (info available through HEAV). This rarely happens. Testing can guide teaching and the repeated practice prepares for future college placement testing (PSAT, SAT, ACT) by lowering test anxiety provided parents do not transfer their stress. You can order a placement test for reading and math, one kit is for all grades. The kit comes with a test instruction manual and just one student testing book. I do have the kit if you would like me to test your child. The cost is $25.00 dollars and takes 60 to 90ty minutes. This test is ordered through Bob Jones University. To find it online, type Placement Test or Grade Level Determinate in the search bar or follow this link http://www.bjupress.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SearchView?storeId=16052&langId =-1&catalogId=10151&q=Placement+Test First, I would recommend ordering their Test for Success book and include it in your school day. This book will teach test taking skills such as deducting what answer can be easily eliminated (reasoning, analytical, and thinking skills). The Test for Success book is easy to find in the Testing Prep Materials left sidebar section online at www.bjupress.com or in the Bob Jones catalog. I highly recommend you prepare your child yearly using the Test for Success (Grade __) book. This will guide your curriculum emphasis and develop a verifiable baseline to encourage her. This will also help me guide her selection in books from the library, because the Grade Level Determinate placement test clearly shows independent reading level versus working reading level. Test for Success becomes part of your instructional day, so order it now! If your student has never been tested before, make sure the Grade Level Determinate Test is given before turning in your paperwork ordering the Acheivement Test to the test proctor. This will ensure the appropriate achievement test has been ordered. Thank you. I hope this information will help and encourages you. Sincerely, Cheri Page 2—Test Prep Info.
