GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Students, this serves as a reminder to turn in your Lunch permission forms to the Attendance
Office. There are 4 boxes, each labeled with a grade level. Please place your form in your grade
level box. We are planning to distribute passes on February 22nd at Snack and Lunch on the Quad.
Student monitoring at Lunch will begin on March 1st. More information to come later.

Heifer International is having a Juice it Up fundraiser tomorrow, Thursday, February 2 at Lunch
on the Rally Platform. Bring a friend and money. Moo….

To all Academy Juniors: We will be having a general meeting tomorrow, Thursday, February 2 in
room 2205 during Lunch. Sign up for your ROP classes! Yay! This is a MANDATORY meeting, so
be on time!

The CVHS PTSA, Crescenta-Canada YMCA, and the Community Center of La Canada are putting
on MOVE (Many Opportunities for Volunteering and Employment)- an exciting career and
volunteer opportunity fair. On Thursday, February 16 in the Quad from 2-4pm, CVHS students
will be able to attend the event with their period 6 teachers and after school on their own to meet
with representatives from approximately 30 organizations from all over the San Gabriel Valley that
offer community service and work experience. Students from all other GUSD schools and La
Canada High School will be able to attend MOVE beginning at 3pm. There will be music and great
prizes and one lucky winner will go home with a new Kindle Fire! The event is FREE, so be sure to
check it out.

Juniors and Seniors: The Pasadena Bar Association is having its 2nd annual Speech
Scholarship Contest. Students will compete by presenting speeches on: Media and the
Coutroom; Public Protest; or Classified Information. First place is a $5000 scholarship and second
place is a $2000 scholarship. Preliminary rounds will take place on April 21 at La Salle High

Reminder, the halls are off limits for eating at Lunch. Please use the designated Quad areas or the
Cafeteria.
COUNSELOR CORNER

Cal State LA will be hosting an event called “Journey to Success” this Saturday, February 4

CLUBS/ MEETINGS

Come to Stand Up Speak Out Against Bullying today, Wednesday, February 1 at Lunch in Mr.
Messal’s room, 2302. Join the new club on campus; everyone is welcome!

Hola! Come to the next Burrito Club meeting tomorrow, Thursday, February 2 in room 2310 to
order your very own Torta’s burrito! We will also be discussing our super sick burrito-tastic t-shirts.

There will be a GSA meeting this Friday, February 3 in Mr. Platt’s room (2106). We will be selling
shirts for $10, eating pizza and talking about “22% Fear”. So, come and bring a friend!
SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES- SENIORS ONLY!

Christermon Foundation College Scholarship Program- Scholarship awarded to graduating California
high school students who will be attending a 4-year college/university. Student applicants must be
affiliated with the California licensed beverage industry through a parent/grandparent’s full-time
employment. Application and additional information are available at www.christermon.com. Deadline to
apply is today, Wednesday, February 1, 2012.

CA State PTA Graduating High School Senior Scholarship applications are now available. The state
PTA offers $500 scholarships that recognize volunteer service in the school and community. There is
NO GPA restriction or requirement to apply! Applicants must be CA residents and graduating from a high
school PTA/PTSA unit in good standing. Students must also be members of their high school
PTA/PTSA- a copy of your membership card is required. Pick up an application from Mrs. Mulvoy in the
Administration Office, or from the CA state PTA Office, or at www.capta.org. Completed applications
must be received by today, Wednesday, February 1, 2012 to be considered.

KFC Colonel’s Scholars is looking for high school seniors with financial need and an entrepreneurial spirit
to qualify for the KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program. Awards can be up to $20,000 for tuition, fees,
textbooks, room and board. Students must have a minimum 2.75 GPA, be enrolling in a public college or
university within their state of legal residence, be pursuing a bachelor’s degree, be a US citizen or
permanent resident, and demonstrate financial need. Submit applications online at www.kfcscholars.org.
Applications are accepted between December 1, 2011 and February 8, 2012.

BBCN Bank (formerly NaRa Bank) is offering scholarships to seniors with financial need. Awards are
open to all graduating seniors who are US citizens/ permanent residents, have a minimum 3.3 GPA, will
be attending a 2-year/ 4-year college in the fall, and have a family income within certain defined limits.
Applications are available from Mrs. Mulvoy in the Administrative Office or at www.narabank.com
(scholarships) Deadline to apply is February 29, 2012.

The Grand Lodge of California, Order of Sons of Italy announces the availability of scholarships for
graduating seniors in the class of 2012. Scholarships are either: Academic Awards for high school
seniors; or Italian Language Study Grants for high school seniors for the summer of 2012. Applicants
must be wholly or partially of Italian descent and be enrolling in an accredited trade school, college,
university or community college. Pick up an application from Mrs. Mulvoy in the Administration Office or
apply online at www.sonsofitalyca.org. Deadline- March 1, 2012.

The Spirit of American Youth Scholarship presented by The Americana at Brand was established to
invest in the future of the next generation by honoring outstanding spirit, leadership, and social
responsibility. This award is open to all high school seniors attending a public or private school in the
San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys. Applicants must be US citizens, national or legal permanent
residents, have attained an overall 3.0 GPA, and have demonstrated leadership abilities through
participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities. Applications are available at
www.americanaatbrand.com or from Mrs. Mulvoy in the Administration Office. Deadline to apply is
March 1, 2012.

Cabrillo Civic Clubs of CA- Offering scholarships to graduating high school students of Portuguese
descent who are also US citizens or permanent residents. Applicants must maintain a minimum 3.5
GPA. Award can be used at any accredited US 2 year/ 4 year college or vocational/ trade institute.
Application and information are available at www.cabrillocivicclubs.org. Deadline to apply is March 15,
2012.

Italian Catholic Federation is offering scholarships to graduating high school seniors. Students must be
Roman Catholic, of Italian descent, have a cumulative 3.2 GPA, be involved in school/ community
activities, and demonstrate financial need. Pick up an application from Mrs. Mulvoy in the Administration
Office. Deadline to apply is March 15, 2012.

Angel Dolphin Scholarship offering $500 award to graduating senior attending a 4-year college in the
fall. Award is for high school students who have lost one or both parents. Students must also have a
minimum 2.7 GPA. Only online applications will be accepted. Access the application at
www.angeldolphinscholarship.org Deadline to submit is March 21, 2012.

The Asian Pacific Community Fund partners with Verizon to offer scholarships to financially assist
students in the pursuit of higher education. These awards will support those who excel academically, are
leaders amongst their peers, and are making a positive impact in their community. Applicants must have
a minimum cumulative unweighted 3.0 GPA and be entering a 4-year college/university in the fall seeking
a degree in math, engineering, or a technical science. Applications and information are available at
www.apcf.org/index.php/what-we-do/scholarship-fund Deadline to apply is March 30, 2012.

US Bank Scholarship Program- Offering forty $1,000 scholarships for graduating high school seniors
enrolling in a 4 year college/university participating in the US Bank Student Loan program. Eligible
students must be U.S. citizens. Information and on-line applications are available at
www.usbank.com/scholarship. Applications will be accepted through March 31, 2012.

Scholarship available to graduating seniors interested in accounting as a career path. Interested
seniors can access the scholarship at www.AccountingCareersforDummies.com Scholarship is a onetime award of $1000 to be used at any accredited post-secondary school or college. Deadline to apply is
May 31, 2012.
The Crescenta Valley High School scholarship application is NOW available.
Many local community organizations provide scholarships to our seniors entering postsecondary education. Awards are available from Rotary Club, Lions Club, Kiwanis Clubs, CV
and Montrose/ Verdugo City Chambers, and local PTSA/ PTA groups just to name a few. All
seniors are encouraged to apply. Pick up an application from Mrs. Mulvoy in the Administration
Office or from the Counseling Office.
Deadline to return application is Monday, February 27.
SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES- OPEN TO ALL

Best Buy Scholarship: Program seeks to recognize and reward students who have made
extraordinary contributions both inside and outside of the classroom. Awards open to students in
grades 9-12 who: have attained a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA; demonstrate commitment to, and
involvement in, community volunteer service or work experience; and plan to enter a 2-year or 4year college/university or vocational/ technical school. Information and applications are available at
www.bestbuy.scholarshipamerica.org The deadline to apply is Wednesday, February 15.

The Commission on the Status of Women is seeking nominations for the 2012 Gem of Glendale
Award. This $1000 scholarship will be awarded to one outstanding student (male or female) who
is engaged in community service benefiting women and/or girls, and who reflects the core values
and mission of the Commission on the Status of Women. Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. If
interested, please see your counselor for the nomination.
