Project Purpose, Vision and Goals What is your vision for the project? Project purpose Bridge the gap created by lack of formal education, and generational cycle of poverty by providing an alternative route/support to youths. Project vision Youths, exercising their potential and engaging in gainful economic activities to better their lives, hence impacting the next generations positively to reduce generational poverty cycles. Self reliant youths: - The funds will empower youths by enabling them to start their income generating activities ( IGA), after acquiring skills and knowledge from the vocational training. 2. Talents discovered and natured:- Through vocational training program, many of the youths will discover their talents, maximizes them and potentially give back to the community. What goals/outcomes do you hope to achieve? 1. 20 vulnerable and street youths will have skills on tailoring and dress making hence become self reliant. 2. 10 youths will have skills on shoemaking and polishing within 3 months, thus 30 youths will graduate and be empowered annually. 3. 20 youths will have skills on hair dressing, and cutting within three months thus 60 youths will graduate and be empowered annually. 4. Within one year 800 dependants will be raised from the cycle of poverty and children attending formal schools without difficulties financial difficulties How does your organization engage or get feedback from those you intend to serve or benefit? (For example: community participation in decision making or project planning, beneficiary evaluations) Through formation of youth support groups of the beneficiaries who will be submitting monthly returns to the organization through the project field officer concerning the progress and challenges they encounter on ground The organization will also get its feedback through weekly reports from the field officer working with the groups. The project has been admitting 10 students per year in the school of tailoring and dress making, 40 graduates from the school of tailoring have graduated from the last four years. 3. field work reports are submitted on weekly basis 4. Monitoring Evaluation and follow up done immediately after graduation. Reports are submitted monthly and quarterly, 5. Impact assessment is done annually III. Project Description How will the project be implemented? (What will you do? Project plan/strategy and tactics) 1. Conduct baseline survey to know the number of the vulnerable youths who are in need of support for the vocational training. GPA Grant Application Page 2 2. Carry out sensitization and mobilization to the youths to enhance them form groups according to the their area of interest, such as those interested in tailoring dress making, and shoemaking and polishing and hair dressing. 3. Admit 10 vulnerable youths into training centre to train in tailoring and dress making, 10 for hair dressing, 10 for hair cutting 10 for shoemaking at the centre 4. Organize local workshops for those youths who have completed the training to encourage them come up with support groups for development. 5. Provide the support groups of those who have finalized their training with equipments to empower them economically to enable them give back to the community. 6. Strictly monitor and evaluate the progress and challenge on weekly, quarterly, and annually and reports/ returns be submitted to organization. Who will benefit from the project? 1. Youths aged 15 – 30 gender parity. 2. children aged 6 – 12 gender parity and school going ages 3. The community as a whole as beneficiaries will support their families. How will you know whether or not your goals are achieved? What indicators will you use? 1. More enrolment of nursery school and lower primary school children 2. Empowered youth groups actively participating in production of productive activities which finally reduce the poverty level in the community 3. More enrollment of the youths to the vocational training center 4. Fewer youths found idling around the trading canters 5. Increased household income 6. Reduced malnutrition in young children and pregnant women. 7. More families can be able to have two – three meals a day IV. Project Budget Expenses: Salaries for vocational trainer, field officer and monitoring officer for 2 hours per day. Training fee for the hair dressing, hair cutting and shoe shining for 40 youths * 1000 each Equipment as start up kits for trained students. Organizational Information Mission/Vision of organization Mission To reach out to vulnerable youths with knowledge and skills that can transform their lives for an independent generation tomorrow free of diseases and poverty. Project vision Youths, young and single mothers exercising their potential, engaged in gainful economic activities to better their lives, impacting the next generations positively to reduce generational poverty cycles. Goals of organization: To reach out to vulnerable children and young persons Encourage the discouraged children and young persons to get involved with activities that have more benefits. Support and encourage young mother to better take care of young ones. Enhance Family relationships for a consolidated society Major organizational activities: A residential home to destitute, orphans, and vulnerable children A rescue center for children who need immediate care or are in danger Operates two clinics in both projects that treat the community at a subsidized fee and the projects children. A tailoring school that admits youths who have missed an opportunity in the formal schools due to financial and social problems. A street smart program that provide continuous counseling and care to young street children and refers them to the rescue center for further help. An Association Model program that that works with street youths through mobilizing them and engaging them on productive activities that leads to them abandoning their bad habits. A Bio-intensive program which act as farmers training centre where people come to learn and practice the production of vegetable and other horticultural crops in a very small piece of land to improve and sustain their livelihood. Does the organization have a plan for this? [Yes] The organization is running a business of hiring out plastic chairs and function tents The bio-intensive program is already a sustainable program since vegetables and other horticultural products and sold for cash. The two clinics at both projects also generate cash for self sustainable and self reliant of the organization. With the help of GPA Funds, we look forward to establish a vocational training center to be a sustainable entity.
