machines and to do the weaving. After two-month training, they were employed and
started to produce T-shirts. Monthly wage paid to them depending upon the amount
of T-shirt production.
The project objective is to contribution to income-generating employment

skills, (2) 55 youths are
employed and reap monthly
wages from employment and (3)

family livelihood of those (55
youths) who are involved in the
project.
The project hopes to have some impacts for example, (1) prevention of migration in
search of employment out of villages, (2) elimination of the uses of narcotic drugs
and community violence among the youths, (3) elimination of fear and concern of
community people affected by behaviors of community youths, (4) the communities
have enough money for expanding existing small-scale or creating new, small-scale
trade and for taking care of their health, (5) preventing themselves from being in
debt, (6) their own property is not confiscated due to debt.
Mr. Siphann, Project Manager in charge of Kampong Speu Support Area Unit said
that this project is good because it has helped create the job for those youths to get
income to support their families and lead to eradication of domestic violence.
Mr. Doem Sam Orn, the section chief of the project said “I think this project is very
good because it has brought about employment in villages for unemployed youths
that has prevented illegal migration in search of the jobs overseas especially in
Thailand I notice that they were barbarously bullied and had no money left at all”.
Mr. Vuth Thach living in Trakiet village who works as a T-shirt weaving staff said
that he was very happy to have a T-shirt weaving handicraft center that has provided
him with work. He added that when he got monthly wage, he would give 70% of it to
his mother and another 30% would go to his aunt because he now lives with her. But
for himself, he said that he had no need because he didn’t know what to be spent on.
Mr. Pen Tola living in Thmar Bang village said “Before I worked here, I was
unemployed, I stayed home and helped my
parents with housework, rice growing and
animal tending. It is very easy for me to work
here, especially it is near my house that
facilitate my travel. It is ok even if I walk or
ride a bicycle. My plan is that when I gain
monthly wage from weaving I will support
myself, especially I will use it for continuing
my study at the university and provide my parents with small proportion of it”.
Mr. Chuon Pov living in Dok Por villag said that before coming to work for T-shirt
weaving handicraft center, during dry season he was sometimes hired to erect
wedding shelter and organize wedding food and during rainy season he helped his
parents with rice growing. He added that he was very glad to work here because it is
near his village that is easy for his
travel and he could save a lot of
money. He would not abandon this
job. When getting monthly wage, he
would give 90% of it to his mother so
that she uses it for agricultural work
such as purchasing of chemical
fertilizer, rice seeds, etc.
Some of those youths had a young
gangster background who used to use narcotic drugs and to fight each other during
any ceremony party dances at night time but now they have become good friends. So
this project has been involved in presenting community safety and security in keeping
with the Safety Commune, Village Program of the Royal Government of Cambodia.
