ACH CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title: Shelter Crisis Coordinator Supervisor: Lead Residential Assessment Counselor Position Function Shelter Crisis Coordinator will provide counseling for current shelter clients, provide training, and other duties assigned by Lead Residential Assessment Counselor or Director of Residential Services. The job requires sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics. Education Requirements: Bachelors or Masters Degree in Social Work, Psychology, and/or Human Services or related field, with experience in the community-based family therapy program. (Masters preferred) Experience Requirements: The position requires assessment skills, knowledge of family system and parenting techniques, and an orientation to collaborative/competency-based theories, a plus. Functional Requirements: The position requires excellent assessment skills, knowledge of family systems and parenting techniques, an orientation to collaborative/competency based theories, knowledge of community resources, and follow-up with aftercare as indicated. Must have knowledge and demonstrate ability to join with youth and their families as well as collaborate with professionals in the community. The Shelter Crisis Coordinator must demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal and written skills as well as some minimal computer skills. Must be able to work independently as well as work as a team member. The Shelter Crisis Coordinator has an understanding of and values family-centered services and has a commitment to children’s safety and family stability. Working Conditions: This position entails exposure to parents/guardians as well as youth with behavioral problems, including possible aggression. Personal vehicle is required for travel. This position offers a flexible schedule to accommodate families. Exposure to Confidential Information: The Shelter Crisis Coordinator will have access to confidential records and client information and must maintain confidentiality and follow policies related to personnel records and client records. The ability to set appropriate limits. Planning: Participate in residential team meetings as needed. Participate in regular supervision as well as team staff meetings with collaborating partners. Participate in administrative and planning staffings. Therapy: Assist families with prioritizing multiple problems and develop appropriate interventions. Apply the appropriate modality of treatment to best meet the family’s needs. Provide parenting skills, specifically the Love and Logic Model, and implement a competency-based approach. Document case progress and development as well as discharge planning. Maintain a professional relationship with all staff and aid in continuity of care between programs. Make appropriate referrals to residential programs, community services programs, or outside referrals. Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with all agency programs. Assist the family with collaborative contacts within the community and ACH CHILD AND FAMLIY SERVICES resources as well as educating the family on these resources. Training and Supervision: Attend In-service training at ACH to expand clinical skills and application, and in addition be certified in first aid, CPR and Restraint Training. Application for licensure is encouraged. CEU’s needed for licensure will be the responsibility of the Shelter Crisis Coordinator. Occasionally lead ACH in-service or YCPTI trainings. Participate in community education and be aware of services provided by ACH. Staff cases with Lead Residential Assessment Counselor and the Residential Services team as needed.
