Target audience
This course is aimed at recently appointed preregistration pharmacist tutors or pharmacists who
might like to become tutors and would like to learn what being a tutor entails.
Aim
To provide an introduction to the role and responsibilities of the preregistration pharmacist tutor to
those who have some or no previous experience of tutoring this student group.
Learning Outcomes
 Explain the roles of a preregistration pharmacist tutor and practice supervisor
 Discuss the stages involved in planning, training, assessing and giving feedback to
preregistration pharmacists
 Describe the concept of competency based assessment and critique examples of evidence
to support competence
 Increase familiarity with the learning resources available and documentation required for
RPSGB pharmacist registration
 Discuss ways to increase the effectiveness of the appraisal process
 Identify and take appropriate action to support any preregistration pharmacists in difficulty
Promoting and supporting an effective pharmacy workforce
 Describe the requirements for your organisation with regards to the annual Deanery review
of preregistration pharmacist training
 Begin an action plan on how to develop in your education or practice supervisor role
