Who is the training for?

This course will help staff to identify
situations where a person may be
vulnerable and at risk and to understand
their own role in relation to adult
protection and safeguarding vulnerable
adults.
Day centre officers,
residential care officers,
care assistants, drivers/escorts
community re-ablement
assistants,
admin support staff,
domestic catering staff,
OT assistants, senior day centre
/residential care officers where
not member of the unit
management team.
Social workers and care
managers, OT’s, sensory teams
and their managers, members of
provider management teams e.g.
assistant managers and senior
day service officers, registered
nurses, key specialist staff,
community response team
leaders.
All Service Managers and Team
Managers (care management
teams only), social workers and
care managers who will be
expected to take a lead role in
investigations.
The Deaf Services Team will
need to ensure some team
members attend this course.
This course can be delivered in-house
for whole units/teams.
This course will help staff to identify and
respond appropriately to situations where
abuse is suspected. This includes
considering values/attitudes; definitions,
signs and symptoms of abuse; consent
and capacity; thresholds for intervention;
handling disclosures; confidentiality and
making decisions regarding sharing
information.
This course will help staff to develop skills
necessary to undertake effective
investigation of safeguarding cases. Staff
will learn about the process of
investigation using the safeguarding
policy and procedures, investigation
techniques, gathering evidence and how
to communicate effectively across
agencies.

Staff will extend and develop their skills
and learn about any new developments in
relation to safeguarding investigation.
The content is especially focused on risk
assessment and mental capacity within
the safeguarding process and awareness
of legislation.
This course is mandatory for staff
who previously have attended
the Assessment and
Investigation course.
Pre course requirement:
Delegates must have attended the 3day “Assessment and Investigation”
as well as the 1 day Mental Capacity
Act- Awareness courses prior to
attending this course.
Staff will develop their skills in
interviewing those suspected of being
abused in order to achieve effective
assessments within the investigation
process. The course will address
interview techniques generally as well as
interviewing vulnerable witnesses where
a court case is a likely outcome. It will
include principles of therapeutic
interviewing, the peace model, cognitive
techniques and of Achieving Best
Evidence.
This course is mandatory staff

and “Developing Assessment

Managers will explore some of the key
issues involved in managing and decision
making in cases of safeguarding. There
is a strong emphasis on developing skills
to effectively manage case conferences.
The course will confirm
the roles and responsibilities in managing
the safeguarding process and in chairing
safeguarding meetings. It will identify the
different stages of Adult Protection /
safeguarding planning meetings and case
conferences and identify the significance
of pre meeting planning and preparation
and post meeting tasks.
This course aims to equip managers with
an understanding of their responsibilities
within the safeguarding adults/ adult
protection policy and procedures. It will
explore links with other relevant policies
and procedures as well as giving an
overview of the care management
assessment and investigation process
which will follow where provider
managers refer a situation of suspected
abuse.
