Duties included measuring system health as well as GIS analyses of spatial and temporal change of biological and chemical parameters. 2000-2001 Research in the lab of Dr. Chris Tanner and Dr. Walter Hatch at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Study monitored growth characteristics and toxin production of the tropical flatworm Convolutriloba retrogemma. 2001-2002 Project Scientist with Environmental Partners Group, MA. Work involved describing and quantifying superfund hydrocarbon exports in Vermont as well as water distribution system engineering in Provincetown, MA. 2002-2005 Graduate student and Research Assistant with Dr. Scott Nixon. Research has focused on modeling nutrient sources and loads to National Parks along the east coast of the US, particularly in Chincoteague Bay, MD/VA. 2004-2005 GIS project scientist with the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Council. Responsible for spatial analyses and creating GIS maps for the implementation by policy agencies and local and state governments. Summer 2005 Graduate student and Research Assistant with Dr. Karen McGlathery. Present research is investigating the potential control of benthic macroalgae distribution by a burrowing polychaete at the Virginia Coastal Reserve LTER station. Teaching Experience: 1999-2000 Teaching Assistant at St. Mary’s College of Maryland: Principles of Biology I and II - Fall 1999, Spring 2000. Responsibilities included planning and teaching laboratory exercises. Coastal Marine Ecology – Fall 2000. Duties entailed planning and preparing field and laboratory exercises while facilitating independent student research. Fall 2005 Teaching Assistant at the University of Virginia: GIS (Geographic Information Systems). Responsibilities include creating and implementing computer laboratory exercises and projects. Volunteer Experience: 1997-1999 Assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 19 in Weymouth, MA. Duties included scout training, budget balancing, and field exercises. 1999-2001 Maintained temperate and tropical aquaria at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. 1999-2001 SOAP (Students Organizing Alternative Programming) coordinator at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Facilitated campus programs, managing of personnel and money. 2003, 2005 Volunteer for the Regional and National Ocean Science Bowl. 2003-2005 Chowder and Marching Coordinator at the Graduate School of Oceanography at URI. Duties included serving as a student representative in voicing student concerns to faculty and administrators as well as coordinating, publicizing, and running campus-wide charity events. 2005 Coordinator of the Chowder and Marching Fundraising Auction. Goals of the auction were to raise funds to establish a lecture series and competitive student research fellowship. Funds raised: $12,000+.
