CDL Technician Job Description

The Industrial Services CDL Technician is responsible for safely driving/transporting all
assigned vehicles/equipment requiring Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) endorsements to and
from jobsites while complying with all company, local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
The driver/technician must complete pre/post trip inspections, perform roadside repairs, and
transport hazardous and non-hazardous waste (tank, van, dump trailer) from a facility to an
outside disposal facility adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) hazardous waste
(HAZMAT) regulations.
The Industrial Services CDL Technician is also responsible for tasks associated with industrial
plant site clean-up using vacuum, high pressure water and dry ice blasting equipment, hazardous
waste clean-up, equipment decontamination and handling of hazardous and non-hazardous
wastes and materials. Transitioning Military candidates will find this a great opportunity to

REPORTS TO: Dispatcher, Field Supervisor and Operations Manager
RESPONSIBILITIES:









Ensure Health and Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting
in a safe manner at all times.
Safely drive DOT regulated vehicles requiring CDL Class A or B endorsements to and from
work sites.
Engage in strenuous physical labor including lifting, pulling and pushing heavy objects.
Completion of associated paperwork, including but not limited to Vehicle Pre/Post Trip
Inspection reports, Daily Driver’s log, manifests and disposal documentation.
Travel overnight out of town.
Maintains professional appearance in uniform and demeanor.
Operate light and heavy equipment including, but not limited to: pumps, vacuum equipment,
hydro blasting equipment, fork lifts, man lifts, jack-hammers and other tools.
Performs emergency response activities including, but not limited to chemical and water
spills, tank cleaning, boiler cleaning, equipment decontamination, etc.
Perform Vehicle and Equipment inspections along with Health & Safety inspections.

Ensures proper use of equipment and immediately notifies supervisor of any mechanical
failures or problems with equipment.
Adheres to and ensures constant compliance with Health & Safety Compliance and
regulations.
Periodically perform other duties and tasks outside normal job responsibilities as assigned by
the management team of Augusta Industrial Services, Inc.
REQUIREMENTS:











High School diploma or equivalency (GED).
Class A or B Commercial Drivers License with Tanker and Hazmat endorsements.
Acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR), DOT medical card, and clean criminal history are
conditions of employment and must be sustained to ensure continued employment.
Focused attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and ability to make real-time decisions in the
field that exhibit good judgement.
Able to read and write legibly and fluently in English.
Willingness to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions; willingness to travel if
necessary (typically within a 4-hour driving distance or less)
Construction field or industrial / environmental related experience is a plus.
Will be required to complete confined space entry (CSE) and 40 Hour OSHA HAZWOPER
Training.
Understands the manpower and equipment required to complete assignments.
Knowledge of chemicals preferred.
Strong mechanical ability.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and WORK ENVIRONMENT









Position involves strenuous physical exertion.
Works extended (> 8 hrs.) time periods. Note that in emergency response situations these
periods can extend beyond 8 hours, up to 12-24 hours; Because of the emergency response
and operational nature of the position, a continuing condition of employment is that
applicant/candidate acknowledges and agrees to be on-call as assigned and on occasion will
require work during week-ends and holidays.
Spend considerable amount of time on one’s feet, standing and making repetitive motions
Ability to bend, twist, lift up to 50-75lb, climb, and hoist
Utilize vacuum hoses to vacuum sludge, water, food products, non-hazardous or hazardous
waste.
Work in confined, hot, wet, cold and foul smelling environments through an 8-12 hour shift
while holding the various sizes of vacuum hoses and hydro blasting hoses or guns. Will have
to hold on tightly to the vacuum hose handle to prevent loss of control due to hose jumping.
Will have to squeeze hydro blasting gun trigger tightly.
Works in atmospheres and locations with the potential for exposure to various chemical and
physical agents, some of which may be hazardous, toxic or corrosive.
Works in potentially elevated noise levels, confined spaces, including lifting in areas of low
clearance.
Working at elevations including working from ladders and scaffolding.

Climbs ladders, scaffolding and into and out of trucks, tanks, and other containers.
Requires pulling/pushing, carrying, grasping, reaching, crawling, stooping and crouching in
confined spaces; Requires walking, climbing, speaking, listening, color determination and
clarity of vision at 2 feet or more (with or without lenses); Requires sitting.
Requires the ability to properly wear and use personal respirator equipment and other forms
of personal protective equipment (PPE) including levels A, B, C & D, including full
encapsulation PPE suits which can elevate body temperature substantially during strenuous
exertion. Requires steel toed boots (employee must purchase).
Employment is contingent upon a successful background check and drug screen.
This position also requires a post offer physical exam along with a DOT physical.
Must meet all work eligibility requirements.
