Description of Task:

1920’s

Presentation Activity

You and a partner are to briefly research a topic associated with our unit of study (the Roaring Twenties), prepare a presentation that incorporates information about the topic and, finally, present that information to the class.

Rationale for the Task:

Completing this activity will not only allow everyone to learn about the fundamental concepts that are associated with our

Roaring Twenties unit, but it will also provide you with the opportunity to learn and practice the kinds of presentation skills that are critical to your success in the modern world of work.

Task:

1. You will be assigned a topic to investigate for the presentation.

2. Next, briefly investigate the topic so that you can effectively explain it to the class.

3. You must then plan and create your actual presentation, which must meet the following requirements:

- must be 5-6 minutes in length (no longer, no less)

- must include a formal introduction and conclusion

- must focus on specific aspects of the topic, such as:

Who? What? When? Where? Why? How? Significance/Effects?

- must include an original form of media (PowerPoint, video, performance/skit,

etc.).

4. Your presentation – and all of its components – must have the effect of enhancing the students’ comprehension of both general and specific details about the assigned concepts. In the end everyone will be tested on their understanding of these concepts.

5. You are welcome to use note cards as a guide during your presentation. You will, however, be penalized if you read directly from the cards for the entire duration of the presentation.

6. You must practice using proper voice, tone, volume, gestures, facial expressions, as well as establishing and maintaining eye contact. This will factor heavily into your grade.

7. Each group must provide the class with pre-made outline sheets that can be completed, or filled out, as you give your presentation. Keep them simple and focused on main ideas.

8. Each group must provide Mr. Higgins with a photocopy of a rubric for the exercise.

9. 3 bibliographic sources are required.

Important Dates (tentative):

Note:

Virtually all of the preparation for the presentation should be completed by Sunday, December 14th.
