Jonathan Bielby was educated at Magdalen College School,
Oxford and St John’s College, Cambridge where he was Organ
Scholar. He became Assistant Organist of Manchester Cathedral
and taught at Chethams and the RMCM. He is Organist Emeritus
of Wakefield Cathedral where he was Organist and Director of
Music for forty years from 1970 to 2010.
Jonathan also worked in Huddersfield at the Town Hall as first
Kirklees Borough Organist; and for 25 years in Leeds at the
College of Music as a full-time lecturer. He has composed
extensively for choir and organ and nurtured the careers of many
choristers and organists.
He has been awarded honorary fellowships by the Guild of
Church Musicians and the Royal School of Church Music. He
was appointed MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours in 2011.
In the last year Jonathan has held 3 month Acting Directorships
of Music at Magdalene College, Cambridge and St Mary
Redcliffe, Bristol.
Jayne Bielby learnt recorders and flute with John Turner and
Rogrer Rostron of the Hallé Orchestra. She has a music degree
from Manchester University and an MSc from Huddersfield. She
works as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Newquay Health
Centre. At the age of 8 she attended one of Jonathan's recitals in
Salford and 24 years later married him! She loves organ music
but dislikes turning pages, despite being rather good at it.
