Novel Project Criteria Sheet and Rubric
Holocaust Novel: Character Study – Movie Cast
Directions: Choose one of the Holocaust novels offered in class
OR another Holocaust novel of your choosing to read
independently.

Pretend that your novel is going to be made into a movie. You will then create a
poster to advertise your novel/movie using the criteria on the attached rubric.
Poster should either be created on a standard size piece of poster board OR
electronic presentation, such as a power point. (Power points MUST be emailed
to me by due date.)

While you read, focus on the characters in your novel. Choose FOUR characters
to use for your project. Give a vivid description of each character, including both
physical traits and personality traits. You should also give examples from the
text, where you are able. (Ex. “Katniss displays characteristics of bravery
because she volunteers to go into the Hunger Games in place of her younger
sister.”) You will need to give ATLEAST THREE EXAMPLES of quotes from your
text, including page numbers. You will then assign each character a celebrity to
play them in the movie version of the novel-make sure to give the celeb’s FIRST
AND LAST name and explain why you chose them to play your character.
Finally, you should include a picture of the person you chose to play your
character. YOU SHOULD ATTEMPT TO USE COLOR WHERE POSSIBLE.
***IF your novel is already available in movie version, you must come up with
DIFFERENT celebrities to play the roles of each character.***

Projects will also be graded on neatness, effort, and overall presentation. YES,
you have to PRESENT your project to the class! (See attached rubric for oral
presentation guidelines.)

Be sure to complete the rough draft worksheet while you read and staple it to the
back of your final project, along with the rubric. If you created a power point or
visual project, please submit your rubric and draft with a copy of the power point.

Edit your work!

Extra credit may be given to any projects that go above and beyond or show a
unique presentation of the required material.

Complete your project and turn it in by the due date: WEDNESDAY, MAY 14th
2014

Any project turned in late will lose one letter grade for each day it is late.

You may choose to work with ONE partner, however, please read the attached
“Partner Contract Sheet” and think carefully before choosing to do so. The
partner contract sheet MUST BE RETURNED BY MONDAY, APRIL 14th, 2014.
