Peace Through Art An International Celebration of Watercolour from Around the World in Izmir, TURKEY May 1 to 7, 2004 PEACE THROUGH ART is an international event showcasing the art of watercolour, scheduled for May 2004, taking place in Turkey in the ancient and beautiful Aegean port of Izmir. Art is a common language capable of creating a bond between people from all nations. Participating artists, and art-lovers, will attend from around the world. It is our hope that “Peace through Art” will bring people from different countries closer together. This event has the support of the Turkish Culture and Tourism ministers, the municipal city in Izmir, the local Press, local TV and Business Association. With their support, the Izmir Watercolourist Association will provide substantial advertising throughout Turkey. Each participant will be asked to provide local promotion through various organizations and media in their own country. Artists participating in this event will display four pieces of their work, the subject of which should, in some way, reflect the culture of the participant’s country. Watercolour artists will have the opportunity to demonstrate their technique and visitors will be able to sample the various artistic techniques of the participating artists. For exhibiting artists and their families there will be an opportunity to tour the many ancient temples and amphitheatres in the vicinity and experience the local culture during this week. Turkey is one of the oldest centers for culture, boasting Roman, Greek, Mesopotamian, Urartian, Lydian, Phrygian, Acathian, Hittite and other civilizations of antiquity. Turkish people take great pride in their country and the diversity of their cultures. Organization Center Izmir Watercolourist Association, Dogan Art Gallery Mithatpasa Cad.
