Individual Awards

Mr Bishnujee Singh, Sheffield Hallam University Awarded the 2003
Cayley Scholarship
Contribution to tuition fees for MSc (Hons) in Advanced Engineering. A very strong
aeronautical engineering background, having completed his MSc, Mr Singh has
recently started work at Boeing Everett, USA, as part of the Aerospace Structural
Analysis Team working on the new 7E7 Dreamliner.

Assist in financing a PhD research project entitled ‘The Flying Qualities of the Wright
Flyers’ using flight simulation technology.

Scholarship
Contribution towards tuition fees for MEng Aeronautical Engineering Degree.

Mr Jason Bennett, Cranfield University
Provide financial assistance to Mr Bennett to disseminate research from his PhD in
Supersonic and Hypersonic Rarefied Gas Flows at the AIAA Conference.
15.
Ms Jarita Christie, Birkbeck, University of London
Contribution towards tuition fees for MSc in Public Policy and Management. Ms
Christie intends to use her experience in aeronautical engineering and sustainability
in order to fill the gap between technical and sustainability expertise and the
governance framework that binds the future of sustainable aerospace.

Mr Giuseppe Ottavianelli, Cranfield University
Contribution towards materials and tools required to carry out PhD research including
the use of a Differential Interferometry techniques of space-borne Synthetic Aperture
Rada data with the University-based Astronautics team and the Space Engineering
Group (ASE).

Contribution to tuition fees for her PhD in Aerodynamics and Flow Control.

Contribution to final year project costs on BEng Aeronautical Engineering.

Team Awards
These are made to organisations to help support established schemes whereby
selection and administration are undertaken at national level by the organisation
themselves, or to provide support to relevant team-based developmental projects.
British Gliding Association, represented by Pete Stratten
40 Awards of up to £150 given to young individuals (15-17 years old), at pre-solo
level, for the payment of flying fees at a BGA-nominated flying club.
Headstart, represented by David Ozhill
Part of the Royal Academy of Engineering’s BEST programme to encourage
Engineering development of young people, Headstart offers Year 12/S5 students the
opportunity to spend one week in an Engineering or Science department at a UK
University to help them make future degree choices and develop their skills. The aim
of the Scholarship is to make relatively small awards to students who cannot
otherwise readily afford the travel costs associated with the scheme.
Royal Aero Club, represented by Frederick Marsh
Sponsorship of four Flight Simulation Bursaries to applicants who are flight simulator
pilots, aged between 16-21 years, and wish to obtain practical experience of flying or
of an air sport.
The Air League, represented by Edward Cox
Funding of a 15-hour flying scholarship in support of the organisation’s programmes
to encourage air-mindedness in young people.
University of Southampton, FutureFlight Project, represented by Dr Simon
Newman of the Aerospace Engineering Department. Awarded the BAA
Scholarship.
FutureFlight is a competition devised by Dr Simon Newman and his team for school
children to design green airliners of the future using a web based design system,
raising awareness of both Aerospace Engineering and Sustainability to young people
in the 21st Century. The award will contribute towards cost of display material and
Exhibition stand for use in public areas.
