Kempinski continues to support young talents in Moscow
In 2011 within the scope Kempinski Arts Support Programme the Hotel Baltschug
Kempinski Moscow will be welcoming the Spring Candidate 2011 for the Visual Arts
Fellowship Emily Dierkes (Baltimore, USA)
Moscow, April 25 2011; The Kempinski Arts Support Programme was established in 2009 for the purpose
of supporting young talents in two areas: classical music and visual arts. The music fellowship is based on
continued study at the most suitable school and flexible study programmes; the visual arts fellowship is
designed to give a young, aspiring artist unexpected opportunities of experience and exposure. The
programme is managed by Marylea van Daalen, who has been involved with classical music and the arts
for decades, both in Europe and in the USA.
In 2011, within the scope of the programme, the Hotel Baltschug Kempinski Moscow is delighted to host
the Spring Candidate 2011 for the Visual Arts Fellowship, Emily Dierkes. Emily received Bachelor of
Fine Arts degree at Syracuse University, College of Visual and Performing Arts in 2006. She also studied
in Florence and had several solo exhibitions in her native Baltimore city, as well as displayed her works in
numerous group exhibitions. Emily’s paintings are figurative and abstracted, inspired by photography,
namely the Polaroid process. Today Emily finds her muse in Moscow and the history of Russian painting.
In Moscow, Emily is supported with practical assistance on everyday issues and will stay at Kempinski
hotel for more than 2 months, while she will be provided art studios at Solyanka gallery and Multimedia

Art Museum. More importantly, Kempinski provides the chosen candidate with a platform for her work
and creativity, namely an international network. Most of all, Emily Dierkes will have the chance to present
her Moscow works to the public in June 2011, when her personal exhibition will be opened at the
Baltschug. Russian adventures of Emily can be followed already now via her personal blog

In 2009, fellowships were awarded to two artists:Pascal Robert, a Swiss artist of French-Vietnamese
background, and Yulia Lezhneva, a Russian soprano from Moscow studying at the Cardiff Academy of
Voice in Cardiff, Wales. Pascal was on a work/study programme in Istanbul at Çırağan Palace Kempinski
for six weeks and on a twoweek wrap-up work programme at the Hotel Adlon Kempinski in Berlin. After
his return to Switzerland, and inspired by his experiences in Istanbul and in Berlin, Pascal moved to New
York City in January 2010 to continue his art career and has held exhibitions in Switzerland, Germany and
the Netherlands. Yulia was the youngest winner of Russia’s Obrastsova Competition. She graduated with
high honours from Gnesis School in Moscow in both piano and voice. Yulia entered the Academy of
Voice in September 2009 under the tutelage of famed Welsh tenor, Dennis O’Neill. She finished her
studies in March 2010, with the help of the Kempinski fellowship and has since then performed in Spain
and England. The programme confirmed three fellows for 2010. Representing the visual arts were
Gianluca Malgeri from Italy who went to Jordan and Alexander Gronsky from Estonia who went to China.
Arseniy Chubachin, the cellist from Novosibirsk, was awarded a classical music fellowship which enabled
him to study at the Hanna Eisler Schule in Berlin.
