September art classes at Funky Trunk, DeLand, include new digital photography group;
Two painting classes taught by 17-year-old budding artist Riley Mitchel

(August 21, 2013) – DeLand, FL – Funky Trunk Treasures, 100 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand, will be hosting 20 art
classes at its “Funky U” this September as part of its ongoing commitment to the local art community, and igniting the spark of
creativity inside all of us.
Workshops include digital photography, doodling, acrylic painting, rug weaving, stained glass and much more. No
experience is necessary. Funky Trunk also opens its doors in September for crafting sessions as students work on their own
projects in the company of fellow crafters.
Please note that this schedule is subject to change without notice. Participants are strongly encouraged to preregister; class sizes are limited and minimums/maximums are enforced. Participants may bring snacks and drinks to classes,
as desired. Students are asked to arrive 10-15 minutes before classes start.

Be a part of the Clique; Sept. 4, 6 – 8 p.m.; No charge! Come join us for an introduction to our new digital
photography group at Funky Trunk Treasures. Let’s get together to share our goals and expectations while meeting
with other fellow photographers. Clique’s purpose is to allow people who have a passion for photography to come
together to learn, create and share their passion with others who wish to do the same. All skill levels from beginner to
pro are invited.

Zen and Now; Sept. 6, 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.; $10, bring your projects and supplies. Take the next step after Zen
Doodling for Beginners and join fellow artists as we practice, create, and exchange patterns.

Book Signing: Silvia Fisher; Sept. 7, 2 – 6 p.m.; Come meet artist and author Sylvia Fisher at her book signing for
new book, It’s a Wonderful Dream. This book is filled with Sylvia’s whimsical illustrations and is the perfect children’s
gift. Wonderful memories can be created when parents and grandparents read and share this book with the children
they love.

Express Yourself with Primitive Painting; Sept. 11, 6 – 8 p.m.; $35 supplies included. This primitive painting class
will teach you how to paint the primitive or “neo expressionist” style using acrylics. Taught by 17-year-old budding
artist Riley Mitchel.

Zen Doodle your Holiday Cards; Sept. 12, 6 – 8:30 p.m.; $35 some supplies included. How about a Zen holiday?
Let’s get a jump start on our handmade Christmas cards, created with Zen Doodle pizzazz and elegance. We’ll

design a one-of-a-kind card together and then leave plenty of time for you to choose additional patterns and continue
creating. We’ll provide the cards, patterns and all the information on available duplication options. Please bring your
pens and pencils. Prerequisite: Zen Doodle beginner class.

Krafting with Kim; Sept. 13, 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.; $10, bring your projects and supplies. Join us at the Funky Trunk
as we gather to work on our craft projects. Bring your project, supplies and a snack. Let’s have some fun and get our
projects done!

Wonder Women; Sept. 14 at 1 – 4:30 p.m.; $85 supplies included. Dive in to the Wonder Woman Archetype and
create a playful, spirited mixed-media background, face, and figure. Uncover aspects of yourself, your “original
wonder”, and your story along the way and use it to propel you. All ages and levels of experience are welcome.

Join the Clique; Sept. 18, 6 – 8 p.m.; Free! Our guest photographer tonight will be Daniella Koontz. Visit her website

Zen Doodling for Beginners; Sept. 19, 6 – 8:30 p.m.; $35 supplies included; Zen Doodling is beautiful artwork that
anyone can learn to do. You do not have to be an artist to accomplish outstanding results. Done with pen and pencil,
the artwork is stunning, it is relaxing, empowering and transformative done over time. During the 2 1/2 hour class, you
make a 5×7 piece of art suitable for framing. You learn the basics that allow you to pursue Zen Doodling on your own.
Come join the fun that is Zen Doodling.

Hula Hoop Weaving: Rugs; Sept. 19, 6 – 8 p.m.; $35 supplies included. Using repurposed t-shirts and an ordinary
hula hoop we will be creating fabulous rugs that are colorful and functional, easy to clean, and a great addition to any
décor; an exceptionally easy project that has endless possibilities! Come create a fun and funky rug to keep or give
as a gift.

Paint Your ART Out; Sept. 20, 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.; Cost: $35 supplies included; $35, supplies included. Create a
finished painting for gift giving or to decorate your own home in just two hours! This is a great class for all levels of
experience. A single subject will be selected for each class which could include a landscape, fruit, or floral. Private
parties also are available with 6 or more participants. Bring a smock or apron.


Whimsical Pet Painting; Sept. 21, 5 – 8 p.m.; $50 supplies included. Pet Painting workshop by Shari Sherman.
Does your best friend have four legs and fur? Join us as we create a whimsical, mixed-media painting of either a dog
or a cat. We will be incorporating some collage techniques as well as painting. Bring your favorite photo or we’ll have
some cute ones to share! Class size is limited; must register in advance.

Creating with Carolyn: Body Butter and Scrub; Sept. 23, 6 – 8 p.m.; $35, supplies included. Learn how to make
your own body butter and scrub with ingredients you already have in your kitchen cabinet. This will be a hands-on
class and you will leave with notes and recipes that you can modify to make your own ‘signature’ products that are
safe and free of harmful chemicals.

Cold Process Soap Making; Sept. 25, 6 – 8:30 p.m.; $40, supplies included. In this class, student will learn brief
soap-making history and chemistry; all about necessary materials and supplies; safety considerations; how to take
accurate measurements; scenting and coloring; mold preparation; cutting and curing; and wrapping, decorating and
packaging ideas to impress. Students will take home one pound of handmade soap made at the class (oatmeal,
lavender or lemongrass—please specify when registering).

Rhythmnicities: The Art of Creating Order in a Frazzled World; Sept. 25, 6 – 8 p.m. $30, supplies included.
Feeling like a frazzled hamster trapped on a never ending wheel going round and round? Join Rhythmnicities™
creator Linda White for this simple yet powerful “Inner-Active” workshop and discover a re-nourishing and unexpected
change of pace for your days and your life.

Zen Doodling – Advanced; Sept. 26, 6 – 8:30 p.m.; Cost: $35; colored pencils included. For those who have taken
the beginners and intermediate classes; come learn elements of design to help make your ‘Zentangle’-inspired art.
We’ll begin exploring color to make your art take on a different dimension. Bring your supplies. (Additional pen sets
available for purchase, but are not required.)

Sit -N- Stitch; Sept. 27, 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.; Cost: $10 bring your project and supplies; Join us at the Funky Trunk as
we gather the fourth Friday of each month to work on our needle craft projects such as knitting, crocheting,
needlepoint, cross-stitch, crewel and more! So bring your project, supplies and a snack if you desire and let’s have
some fun and get our projects done!

Stained Glass; Sept. 27, 6 – 8:30 p.m.; Cost: $40 supplies included. Each student will make a butterfly, mermaid OR
star motif in stained glass. Instructor Cathy Gatti will have supplies and tools available for use during the workshop.
The student will have completed a Star sun catcher at the end of the evening to take home.

Zen Doodling – Intermediate; Sept. 28, 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.; $35, bring your supplies. For those who have taken a
Zen Doodle beginners class; come and learn how to bring your art alive by shading and learning more patterns. Your
art will improve as will your confidence.
