Added Value assesses:
The application of skills and knowledge from the Units to produce an effective overall response to a brief.
Added Value Unit Outcomes:
Design and manufacture a product in response to a brief
Breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding from across the Units.
The application of skills and knowledge from the other Units to produce an effective overall response to a brief.
Assessment Method(s):
Assignment
Evidence for this Unit will be generated through an assignment in which learners will produce a design folio and a finished prototype in response to a design opportunity. Learners will develop and confirm a design brief as required. They will carry out research and use idea generation techniques to develop and resolve their proposals. They will investigate materials and manufacturing practicalities, plan a manufacturing strategy and implement it. This includes building and testing models.
Assessment Method(s):
Assignment (60%) and Question Paper (40%)
Component 1 — Question paper
The question paper requires learners to demonstrate aspects of breadth and application in theoretical contexts. Learners will apply breadth of knowledge from across the Units and depth of understanding, to produce descriptions and explanations related to theoretical design and manufacture contexts.
Component 2 — Assignment
The assignment requires learners to demonstrate aspects of challenge and application in a practical context. Learners will apply knowledge and skills from the Units to produce a solution to an appropriately challenging design problem.
