We began class today looking at pictures of art forms of how the human body was looked at from thousands of years ago. We compared and contrasted the early works of the
Egyptians and the Roman statues.
We also discussed the difference between the meanings of nude and naked.
Nudity: is knowing that you are nude
Naked: is not knowing that you are naked
We then began to look at more art forms and talked about how the image of humans has changed so much over the time of man. We also discussed how the image of beauty has changed throughout times between the roman and Egyptian times.
One of the differences discussed in class between the Egyptian and the Roman images of humans, was that the Egyptian images of humans seemed to be more symmetrical compared to the roman ‘action shots’ of humans.
We then looked at the beauty of Socrates and talked about how he had no physical beauty, but made up for that with the beauty of his philosophies (the beauty of the soul).
Catharsis: to release the bad out of yourself (ex. Taking a dump, that’s releasing the bad)
