To manage inpatients, outpatients and emergency patients under the supervision of Registrars
and Specialists.

BRIEF STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Resident Medical Officers spend 3, 6 or 12 months at King Edward Memorial Hospital. The three month
posts are limited to GP trainees and provide access to gynaecology training only. The 6 month posts are for
doctors seeking training in obstetrics and gynaecology, but who are likely to seek a career in another branch
of medicine, such as general practice. The 12 month posts are for doctors seeking training in obstetrics and
gynaecology with a view to specialise in this area.

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (for professional training)
The Royal Australian College of Emergency Medicine (for obstetrics & gynaecology)
The Royal Australian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists
1. Resident Medical Officers will be expected to manage outpatients and inpatients under the supervision of
registrars and specialists.
2. Residents participate in a team approach to patient care
Resident Medical Officers may gain experience in the following areas: Emergency, Oncology,
Neonatology, Menopause, Family Planning, Genetic Counselling, Drug Dependence, Gynaecology and
Obstetrics.
3. Residents are expected to attend and actively participate in as many Hospital meetings and lectures as
possible

SELECTION CRITERIA
ESSENTIAL MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
1.
Qualification in Medicine registrable by the Mediclal Board of Western Australia.
2.
Appropriate clinical experience to undertake a Resident Medical Officer position.
3.
Good interpersonal communication skills.
4.
Good professional communication skills.
5.
Works effectively as a team member.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
1.
Shows dedication to and interest in pursuing a career in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General Practice
or Emergency Medicine and has a positive to learning and developing skills.
2.
Has at least two years of clinical experience post graduation.
3.
Shows a personal commitment to continuing medical education.
4.
Monitors and review own clinical effectiveness.
5.
Shows commitment to continuous improvement of patient outcomes.
6.
Is aware of own limitations.

APPOINTMENT FACTORS: Evidence of registration by the Medical Board of Western Australia
must be provided prior to commencement. This position is subject to a successful Criminal
Record Screening Check and a successful Pre- Placement Health Screening Clearance Check.
This position is also subject to a Working With Children (WWC) Check. This is a compulsory
check for people who carry out child-related work in Western Australia.
