Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to: carry out
operational plan for underground mine recovery operations
involving buried equipment; secure unstable ground in the
operational area; check and set up equipment for the plan and
type of underground recovery operation; connect and use
recovery equipment to implement operational plan in
underground mines; clean, recommission, test, and store used
recovery equipment; and complete documentation and carry
out a debriefing.

Prerequisites: Unit 21278, Describe, install, and reassess
support systems for an underground mine; Unit 21818,
Describe, drill, and install support systems with a hand held drill

demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills.

Outcome 1
Carry out operational plan for underground mine recovery operations involving buried
equipment.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Operational plan is carried out in accordance with company procedures.
Range
1.2
operational plan may include but is not limited to – emergency
procedures, materials required, resources required, health and
safety, plans of area, flooding, water, notification of incident, other
agencies, hours of work, heat and humidity, transport of men and
equipment, old workings, search patterns, coal dust, gassed out
headings, machinery type.
Gas analysis results are interpreted and responded to in accordance with
company procedures.
Range
factors in the analysis may include but are not limited to –
barometric pressure, Coward’s triangle, Ellicott’s diagram, carbon
monoxide make, Graham’s ratio, explosive atmospheres, gas
detection, gas monitoring, ventilation, fresh-air base.

6.1
Documentation is completed in accordance with company procedures and
made available for debriefing.
